My 71 GS came with it. I was wondering if it is available from GM, repro, or do I have to use the old stuff. Option B 84. Thanks, Dan:Brow:
i asked about it too in another forum waaay back and got the same answers. i was curious about replacing the rubber inlay in mine. i would think someone at least makes that. maybe? o No:
BSMs Hi, guys. No, you're not the only ones concerned with the factory moldings. But I believe nobody posted here because there's basically nothing out there (at least that I know of) to help! o No: When I bought my car decades ago, the passenger side door had a dent in the BSM, so I ordered a new replacement thru my friendly neighborhood Buick dealer. Thank God I ordered that one (which I still have); but how I wish I'd have ordered a complete set! At this point, my best guess would be to remove the moldings you want to restore and SLOWLY remove the vinyl by heating the back with a heat gun. Have the stainless restored by a stainless polishing professional (there are quite a few good ones out there). Then clean up the insert with vinyl cleaner and put it back with trim adhesive. You can dye it, too, to bring back the original sheen. Of course, some aren't restoreable. But you can probably find some decent used ones in the boneyards to do this to. It's a pain and expensive, but sometimes, that's just a part of owning a GS. It ain't a Chivvy! If anybody has any better ideas or restoration sources, I sure would like to hear them. Good luck and keep us posted.:Comp:
I have one rear quarter piece for the 70-72 cars, it is missing the rubber but nice otherwise....if anyone wants it, you can have it free...just a couple dollers for shipping and an envelope. First reply gets it. Used to be you could buy moldings at trim shops, etc..perhaps someone has a black style that would work...?? Later Tim
