I thought my '68 Riviera was originally dark metallic green, based on what it looks like in person. But I'm just now discovering that the paint code on the body plate is V: Charcoal Metallic - which, in every picture I can find of it, looks kinda dark green-ish. Even inside my trunk has this color, and it still looks green-ish to me. This is a surprise - one of many, I'm sure, as I dig deeper into this restoration. But my question is about the body plate. Just next to the "Paint" stamp is V2. I know the V is for Charcoal Metallic, but what does the "2" signify? Car has a black vinyl top, and I've read that the two number/letters would be lower and upper body colors. Is the 2 simply "black vinyl top"? I'll be buying paint soon, so I want to make sure. Thanks, guys!
V is a really cool code; I used to have a ‘68 Wildcat that was V originally, and it looked greenish charcoal. (Attached you can see each division had a different name for it.) A member here had a ‘68 GS400 convertible that color-it was gorgeous. I also think 2 is Black vinyl. https://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au/colour_swatch_oldsmobile_1968 http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/factory-riviera-colors-for-68.195891/ Patrick
Excellent! Great to know, thanks. Both Chevy and Pontiac call it some kind of green - so I'm not blind.
