I posted this in the whoa and the sway but haven't received any response. Does any one know the proper procedure to remove and replace the body mount bushings on my 72 skylark?

    Jason,
The first thing I did to my cars was to liberally spray the area that the bolts that are through the bushings real good.It wouldn't hurt to spray them for a week or so prior to attempting this job. There are 2 bushings on the front (each side)of the frame right below the firewall that you can see the nuts. They are the only ones as the rest along the body are threaded up through the body but cannot see the nuts.If you break these or strip them, be prepared to make holes from the upper floor pan so you can get to them.I have had alot of them come right out but had more that either stripped or broke. It is best to remove your rear bumper so you can access the a rearmost ones(on the rear crossmember)but you don't necessarily have to do that.I use a floor jack and a 3 ft 4x4 and after I remove the bolt you slowly jack up the body so you can get to the bushing.Several pieces of advice here for you.1.Wear safety goggles.Lots of debris can fall into the eyes.2 Keep fingers out from under body till you make sure the body is secure and wont come down to get your hands.3.Work slowly and take your time.Don't try to do all of the bushings at once. There are usually 2 spacer bushings on top of the crossmember that is above the rearend that have no bolts in them.Like I said, spray the heck out of them with some good penetrant to help get the bolts loose.Be prepared to break some bolts or strip some.Ihave put poly bushings on my cars and used antisieze to help keep the bolts from corroding right away(though I am not planning on removing them soon)Hope this helps.
