Now, what is it about BMW 5-series that like to set their sights on the Centurion? All three times I've had it out this month...

First one pulls up to me at a light and revs it. It was at the bottom of an overpass, so there was a hill to climb. The light turned green and he gunned it, so he got the first start as I eased it off the line. Then, I gunned it and waited for him at the top of the hill.

The next time another one comes up on the freeway. He pulls alongside and revs. It was my exit, so I left it.

Then, today, I'm leaving a meeting and another guy there drove a 5-series. I left the parking lot first, so was at the light first. It turns green and I leave normally. Then, I hear the rev as he guns it to pass and beat me to the freeway entrance. I let him get a bit alongside as he's trying to pass, then I open the secondaries and it was done.

Now, with 2 1/2 tons, I don't set my sights on racing... but... please... what does someone in a 5-series think they're going to prove? And what's the attraction?

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

    First, :TU: :TU: good Kills

Jealousy ... plain and simple. They spend MUCHO $$$ on their Euro-Bling, pull up along side a seriously cool classic and start to question their $700/month lease payment so they figure they'll justify it by blowing you away

.... except they never planned on getting SPANKED by a 30+ year old tank !!

I've done it to too many Porsche's to keep count  :beer

Good kills, but make sure the next 4 door BMW doesn't have that funny little M5 emblem on the trunk lid.......they're not easy pickin's unless you're packin' a serious punch.

That would be OK since the Centurion just has a "plain vanilla" passenger car, low compression, V8 (well, BBB :Do No: ) that's 35+ years old - [OK, so the Osborne carb and distributor helps :TU: ]. I would think that something considered a high-performance sedan built 30+ years later OUGHT to be able to take it - easily. It's certainly not a fresh Stage 1, GS - or modified Turbo Regal. I'm surprised the regular ones aren't quicker.

The last one was surprised, too. I know him, so he e-mailed me later. "OK, so what's under the hood?" Hey, just a stock old Buick V8, man.... he'll really be in for a shock the day he tries to mess with one of those little Buick V6s sporting a little hood bump.

    Good Kill!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fast tanks are my favorite cars.

I'm got tired of having to edjumacate all these people with more money than brains. They have read or watched too many advertisements. The turbo Volvo blasting out of the garage like a pro stocker was my favorite. A doctor friend or mine bought a V-12 XJS back in the early 80's and assumed it would run with my basically stock 72 Stage 1 that runs in the high 12's. Here in Gainesville, Florida with all the medical facilities and teaching hospitals there are so many people with Porsches and Beemers and the occasional Ferrari I just let them go now. There is a Maclaren M-1 here I've seen but never pulled next to. I'd bet that car is as fast as the advertisements though. I might have to try him given the chance.

the 5ers were probalbly the 525 models, No guts at all. The M5 is a different beast. Last july I had the pleasure of driving one on the german autobahn around Berlin, It was a 2003 model year, at 165 mph it was solid as a rock.

BigBlock68 Love that old car smell.

The Porsches were out in force tonight. Didn't want anything to do with the GS though, same with the Corvette guys (I saw atleast 3), which is odd. Usually they're provoking the crap outta you.

    Good kills Victor!

A good friend of mine offered an opportunity to drive some of his stuff at the racetrack when my son and I visit next month. His '06 M5 is all about performance with style. Runs in the lower 12 second range just shy of 120 in the quarter. His '06 Z06 is almost stupid fast for a daily driver. Running in the mid to upper 11's at over 125. Faster than the M5 but not nearly as smooth or comfortable. Both cars beg to be driven to the limit. He's used to big block Buick power and he says he's impressed with both cars in all facets. And if those don't push things a bit for an adrenalin rush he has a brand new (less than 300 miles) Hayabusa that has the ability to up the ante considerably. I'll let you know.
