The car generates enough buzz just driving it around, but when both horns went off without touching the wheel, people really notice. Pulled over and shut off the car, but the horns kept blaring as they aren't switched by the key. I disconnected them as fast as I could and all is good. No more clicking when I press the horn button now, so can I assume the horn relay is shot ? If so, is it under the hood on a 68 Wildcat? or on the fuse panel. Gary
This is too much of a smoking deal for you not to have a copy, http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-68-BUI...ash=item25db6930f2:g:7boAAOSw1P9ZbOVW&vxp=mtr
I figured it out, I think. I have that book but it didn't jive with what I found under the hood. Looks like the previous owner ran new wiring with an aftermarket relay and one unfused lead from the battery direct. I will try to change it all back to factory. Thanks, Gary
The relay I saw on the inner fender was a red herring, don't know what it's for, don't care right now. I did find the horn relay above the Lf. headlamps and it tested good. Disconnected the harness at the steering column and test light on B+ went out. Tried horns again from harness connector on the column, Horns work great. Ground problem somewhere in the column. I also noticed the steering wheel appeared wet after a heavy rain and it looks like the windshield has been leaking water onto the steering wheel. Likely the water rusted away a return spring or something. I'll read up and see what it takes to remove the horn pad and go from there.
Mystery solved! wire from the horn pad popped out and the tensioning spring grounded on the back of the horn pad. Steering wheel looks pretty grim. Any aftermarket recommendations? perhaps Grant?
Buick rallye steering wheel? I tossed an old grant wheel into the garbage many years ago when I purchased a new Buick rallye wheel + accessories from the partsplace.
