I see it's gone. Did we "fanatics" get out of hand? Do we have to keep our faith silent here? I know at least one other forum I am on, I am not allowed to express my belief in God.

I dont know ...everyone has their own ways.....in my house we keep our faith in our hearts ...we have no need 2 advertise or preach...

btw...I'm in need of a n-25 rear bumper for a 1972 gs...any luck that you might have one for sale?

I suspect it had very little to do with "keeping your faith silent".....I did not read every post on that thread, but only peeked in sporadically, but from what I saw, it had probably ran its course and was perhaps starting to get a bit out of control. And I'm not speaking about "fanatics" here....I've been one of those "swing from the chandaliers" people (as some would call it)....it was time to put that thread to bed, IMHO.

That thread was way beyond being practical to clean it up of the 95% posts that had nothing whatsoever to do with the original post. In fact, it didn't belong in The Bench, where it started, should have been put into this forum instead. It may have actually stayed on topic if it was in here. It had nothing to do with silencing anyone. There were numerous public and private complaints about the thread, from BOTH sides of the religious aisle. Clearly, the discussion was not staying on topic. If someone chooses to repost the billboard in this forum, and it is discussed as it was intended to be, I see no reason it would not stay up. The moderator for Help From Above would be in position to direct it as needed, if needed. Thanks for your understanding.

I will take the blame for changing direction on that thread......I simply asked if "anybody had an inner fender for sale".....I usualy ask that on religous, political and soap opera posts as a way 2 veer off course.

.....but the orgy(NOT) that followed afterwards was a tiny bit bad....it just spiraled into what it became ...humorous posts and pics with innuendos for us big people.....but it was the same 1/2 dozen people posting back and fourth...we forgot about all others....

But we all must remember...not all of us reading here is an adult...We have younger people who read the same posts as the rest of us 'older" members.

    Ok

What does that mean? THey aren't allowed to take part in the real world discussion? Please lack of discussion good or bad is what allows problems or perceived problems to go unsolved.

It means children might be on here with their parents. Its usually clean enough to be a family site. Why mess with it?

What started as a thread that asked people's opinions on a billboard turned into a contest where others felt they could top each other's pics with ones that were even more disgusting. Contrary to what people may think, God does not have a "sense of humor" when it comes to mocking him. To depict Christ as a stripper is a reflection of just how depraved mankind is. The same mankind that Christ gave his life for. IMHO the mocking in the thread was no different than the mocking he received while being crucified. Any Christian here should have been offended.

By posting "parts wanted" ads in a faith thread, are you saying they are not allowed here so you are trying to derail discussions that revolve around said topic? If so, I can't see any sense in there being a "Help from above section" if this topic is not welcome here.

When I saw your first post above, 3 things came to mind:

---You are mocking my faith, which you are welcome to do.
---You are asking a sincere question of me, looking for an N25 bumper.
---You are telling me that you are a Christian, but not evangelistic, choosing to keep your faith silent.

Am I right with any of these thoughts?

Carl, reading the post a few times,I believe he was serious in asking if you knew of a N25 bumper.I admit,by him asking after all that went on in the other thread and so on,that it could look like he was trying to derail a conversation, but I do not think that was his intention here.

Carl, I'm not so sure that Frank (rex362) noticed that this thread is in the Help From Above forum, where it should be. Am I right Frank? This IS the appropriate forum for Carl's post, and trying to redirect the thread with parts requests is not appropriate here, nor was it in the original thread in The Bench. However, since that thread was religious in nature, and posted incorrectly in The Bench, you certainly could have just notified a moderator about it, maybe it could have been moved here before everyone laid waste to it.

like i said...yes..blame me...I asked for car parts ....and then it went on the course it took...

and yes...maybe/most likely I didnt pay attention if the post was or was not in its proper place....just being sarcastic with it at all times

    I apologise....no problem here

    is this case closed?

I hear you man. I WAS offended, but NOT surprised. Today (as it has ALWAYS been), you are considered weak, misguided and crazy if you are a faithful Christian because you acknowledge that somebody else other than yourself holds the cards. This is impossible for some people to even begin to conceive of and it's scares some people to death when they find out that there is accountability for their actions in life. It's easier to just turn your back and pretend or even "believe" that Jesus is just a figment of your imagination and that it doesn't really pertain to you.

In fact, the EXACT opposite is the truth. Problem is, you just don't know it till you're actually in that place. And "anybody" CAN be if they want to be. That's the kicker.

Everything you said above was dead nuts accurate.

I see no point in keeping my faith to myself. How is that beneficial to anybody? Even yourself? What's the point? There's a very sharp line between revealing what God has done in your life and ramming your religion down someone's throat. The problem is, even the slightest mention of God these days somehow equates to force feeding Christianity on people.

I look at it this way. The people most afraid or uncomfortable with Jesus are ususally the people who need Him the most. We ALL need Him, just some acknowledge it and some never will due to fear of persecution or because they don't understand it. Sound familiar?

Kind of reminds me of the reaction people have when I say that something that I'm eating is organic. They immediately squinch their faces up and go "eeww", "what's it taste like"? LOL A lot of people think if it's organic it's tainted somehow. Again, the EXACT opposite is true. People always shy from what they don't or won't understand.

Christ accepted nails through his body on my behalf. It's not much of a sacrifice I make in return when I accept criticism for being His follower, but it's a start...

You're right Ken about the difference between telling others what being saved has done for me, and ramming it down other people's throats. However, I tend to be a touch more brave than shy sometimes

David - I only have editing privileges here in this forum....none in the bench.

Best case scenario.....everyone keeps this thread on topic and I don't have to use the edit button.

I had a feeling that billboard thread was doomed from the start.....there was some pretty twisted stuff posted there. :Do No:

First off, this isn't meant to be critical.......but, faith without works is dead. You can't be genuinely saved and just sit on that knowledge. The Great Commision didn't say get saved and keep it to your self. We're to spread this Good News to all corners of the Earth.

And that includes this little forum and board.
