    Hi guys,
Is it true about the bhj balancers being a better fit than the romac balancers meaning I won't have to trim my timing chain cover etc (as advertised on the TA web site). Please let me know so I can decide which to buy.

ATI is the way to go.
    In my ''Not-so-Humble'' opinion.
I have had Them on 2 different motors over the last 10 years and I would use nothing else.

Teh Romac is a direct fit, pullies line up and no timing tab required. It does require a slightly longer balancer bolt. Jim Burek

I like the BHJ, no problems on my Stage 2.

The BHJ works fine on my car. I had to hone it's ID to spec for the correct interference fit.

I have a Romac on mine. About the only complaint i have is, it rusts real quick. Its bare steel. Also you need a puller to get it on and off, not like the stock one. I dont know about the others. You can get a Romac for just over $200 new

    gotbuick What, me worry?

Good point. It looks pretty enough to pop right on. By next season she will be getting the rusty crusties.

Next time mines off it's getting a painted. Probably will throw the balance off now. :Dou:

We sell and install the Romac I have used several of them. We only stock one of the all steel units but a couple of the aluminum. I prefer the steel internal with the aluminum exterior for the weight savings. I know its not much but every thing helps. I just had a guy tell me he was bring some buddy's over to hear the car run because he says it revs like a SBC and they think he's nuts.

Gary, How did you (or didn't you) get the pulleys to line up? Not saying you use stock pulleys at all or even stock accessories, but I bought an ATI and I had to send it back. It wouldn't work!

I've never figured out how you guys use ATI:confused:

I had the same prob with the Fisher. Had to get a 3 bolt Moroso pulley and enlarge the center hole.
I've been asking ATI to do it right for years.

(I have also corrected them on their catalog error: it says Buick 403-455. Should be 430 but actually 400, 430 455 would be more correct.)
Oh well I guess we should feel fortunate that the make one at all for us.....

Re: Re: bhj vs romac balancer

OK one more question before I make my decision on either the Romac or BHJ balancer. If I go the BHJ route will I have issues with my stock pulleys lining up or bolting on, will that particular balancer rust up like the Romac, and will I have to do any trimming of my timing cover. Also if I go the Romac route where can I get the slightly longer bolt, does anyone have a part number and make for this longer bolt.

    Thanks all.

The BHJ is all stock dimensions with the exception of the hub ID. It is designed to have a slight press. Everything works as original, pulleys, timing tab, etc. If a block girdle is in your combination, I believe the BHJ is the only one that clears without modification. I would recommend painting the balancer. TA includes the longer bolt with the balancer, it is a grade 8 fine thread, don't know the length off the top of my head, though. The BHJ is just over $400.
