Read this thread, and avoid this guy on parts. Here are the communications over the past 3 weeks. He responded to an ad I placed in in Parts Wanted:

To prove this guy is a LIAR, he already cashed the check that he claimed he did not.

    Hey Steve,

I filed a USPS Fraud Complaint this morning at the post office. The fine for fraud is $5,000, so I hope you saved all the money from ripping people off.

    You can deal with them.

I posted this on all the car boards.

When I am done, no one will buy anything from this crook.

Paul, all other issues aside, it's not cool to have that mailing address posted all over the internet.

I don't know all the details, so I'm only going to post from my own personal experience.

I have both bought from Steve, and sold stuff to Steve, and it was nothing but smooth sailing. I do know that Steve can get pretty busy at work, and be a day or so out on replies, but he always does reply.
He's been to my house, I met him in person, and he seems like a nice guy to me.

Is there any chance that there has been some misunderstanding between the two of you?

Again, I have nothing to gain by posting this, other than to relay my own personal dealings with Steve, which were all good.

you have done all of this in a f-ed up transaction that has taken the total span of 3 weeks??! Unless you have concrete proof of him trying to and succeeding in defrauding you, you just opened yourself up to all kinds of litigation. Sounds to me like he didn't want to sell to you and is trying to get the check back to you.

I know for a fact that cross state mailings can take over 7 working days...I wouldn't call anybody a crook until I knew for sure that the check wasn't on its way. The pm chain indicates he spent 2 weekends trying to get to the parts and that doesn't count the time it took for you to send a check. My point is it doesn't sound like you have given enough time for the return check to get there.

As far as the check being cashed, who knows. Maybe his wife cashed the check by mistake...my wife cashes checks for me all the time. Again, my point is you have given nothing that is rock solid proof of fraud.

If somebody jumped the gun that quick on me and sullied my name and posted my personal address i would be all over them legally...again I have no beef with you, I'm just telling you what you can and can't do

Well a portion of the story will give you a slanted view of course. Paul's posting of our communications lacks some important information, communications deleted and of course timelines which are critical to the accuracy of his claim.

But please to anyone, I reinforce a simple premise: If you don't trust me, please do not do business with me. If I offer something for sale and you question whether I'm good for it ask around Paul has his feelings and Im sure others have dissimilar dealings with me. I'm confident there are enough others that they'll support the truth that I've never screwed any of them. I'm not a thief and take offense to Paul's claims.

The buyer in this case whom I solicited off this site is:

    PaulGS

He had posted that he was interested in purchasing power locks for a 1970 Buick. I offered a set that were in a 1971 Sportwagon, after a bit of communication back and forth he offered to purchased them. Paul did ask as to whether I wanted Paypal or Certified funds? I told him a personal check was fine (I had no intention of holding the check until it cleared) before sending the parts - the money wasn't important the integrity of the v8 site backed up the sale as far as I was concerned. As he did share I sent him a note (dated August 4th) saying I didn't get the parts removed and if he was willing to wait I'm sure I could get them removed the following weekend and sent after that, that would be at best 8-11-08. He avoided sharing the communication in which I stated that I work 2 states away from where I live and that I can only mess with the cars on the weekend. I also didn't share with him that time is split between my wife and 4 kids and cars as it wasn't relevant to the situation..

On a run to the bank on SATURDAY August 9th I did toss his check into my account (our communications began back early in July and I didn't begin pulling the parts until he committed to buying them - plenty of folks want something but never carry through on the purchase commitment).
On 8-11-08 I was going to email Paul and was prepared to send out most of the parts, (everything but one piece of wiring). I wasn't able to get a wire that was fixed behind the dash board, dash, a/c vents etc all of which had to come out first so I intended to break the shipment into two parts to him, but instead on the morning of the 11th I received a note, demanding the parts.

For anyone who's ever dealt with the public you get to where you know what is a good business transaction and what is a bad one. I decided that sending the parts to Paul and completing the transaction would amount to the type of situation where no matter what I did he'd find something to complain about. At that time I asked for his address so I could send the $180.00 paid to me back to him. How did I arrive at this? Well for starters he emailed me and wanted to know if I had shipped the parts to him yet - BEFORE I even received his payment. I'm all for trusting someone but come on!

So, after getting his address I went to the post office, purchased a postal money order and pony'd up the addl $2.40 to get a certified mail receipt. Why? Because I was confident something like this was just around the corner. I have the Certified Mail Receipt right here in front of me dated 8-13-08. Paul also left out the PM he sent me in which he said he has 30,000 people in his address book and that he was going to be sure that everyone of them never did business with me either. I'm not a parts dealer just an enthusiast like most who visit this site.

Im pretty sure the postal money order requiring signature confirmation will be there on Monday August 18th as again it was sent on August 13th pretty quick dismissal from the USPS Paul.

So if the Postal Authorities, the FBI, the IRS, the Secret Service, the OSOC, the Sandinistas, the Canadian Mounties, the US Border Patrol, the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and the Coast Guard and the local mall Security Guard are after me - Paul has posted my address above for you first class job there. LOL :TU:

I guess a lot of folks here get confused with facts and data.....:Smarty:

For all of you that get involved in a deal gone bad will find out how it feels.

So, as Jim Lore would say, the facts "Res Ipsa Loquitor".

So long to the majority of good folks here, and good riddence to the bashers who just don't get it.

Paul,iv'e been waiting on parts for 3 weeks from 2 different board members,no biggie they get here when they get here.Sometimes waiting for the unobtainium part is just part of the game, and usually i'm in no hurry anyways...i went so long without it to begin with,a few more days doesnt hurt.I tend to agree, you cryed "liar & thief" a bit too early in the game.Steves got a busy personel life which i can relate to,sometimes i'm not on the ball shipping stuff, but it's not done intentionally.I got a feeling you pooched yourself on this one:pp

PackerBacker...nice car also if the car in your avatar is yours. It is the hardtop version of my 70 vert.

PaulGS...if that registered USPS check arrives, you should be on here removing that foot from your mouth and apologizing for your knee jerk over-reaction

PackerBacker...if that is sent USPS Priority with sig required, there is a tracking number which you can track the day of arrival

Paul - Via the v8 board is the only means you and I have for communicating with one another. If after you receive the check (I would presume tomorrow) you wish to delete this post I'm all for it. 538 hits on a post only 27 hours old makes our transaction gone sour quite a bit of drama eh?
But to use the smarty icon :Smarty: and suggest folks are dealing with partial facts is both fair and accurate. When you posted our communications back and forth for everyone you did leave out your note to me dated 8-5-08 at 7:59am in response to my "Paul I only got the system partially out..." comment by saying "No problem. Let me know when you send it." Obviously posting that would let everyone know how unreasonable you've become as our transaction progressed. If there's any doubt to the truth of this, I believe a board moderator could substantiate my claim by looking back at the communications.
I should have, and I apoligize for not thinking of it, provided you with the USPS tracking information so here it is: 7008 0150 0002 8131 0053 not only is the check in the mail we can all see just where it is at :)

I'm happy to report that I did complete removing the system yesterday late afternoon JS was on the phone with BM and they were both laughing at me as I struggled to complete the task. I have decided to post the set up on ebay creating a fair environment for all to view and hopefully bid upon. Looking at ebay listing 190243608843 I believe I offered you a nicer product at a much better price - but then again perhaps what I have to offer is worth less......please be sure to check out the auction.

I appreciate all the support received throughout this unfortunate situation both publically and privately. To those interested in parts I'm searching this evening through what I have and will be in touch with each of you soon.

Steve Craig - I've got all four insulators just PM me your address

KC Wade - thanks for everything! Seriously. I sold my car last February after losing my job it was 100% factory correct colors, options and numbers I will always remember it. Burnished saddle is a great color!

71customConv - I'll hit the attic next Saturday when I'm home again I do believe I can help you out.

Kevin Mcculloug I'll make it my life's work to find the alternator you need! Thanks for the support :beer

Paul GS-- you did not give this sale enough time and leeway to finalize. These rare and hard-to-find parts deals do take a while, because the parties are doing this as a hobby, not a vocation.

We all have to get along! This Buick group is above all the ricer insulting and cussing-- usually-- so try to keep it that way. Please.

David - with all due respect, Paul opened the floor up by posting a complaint against me publicly. He's subject therefore to the court of public opinion, as am I, as a direct result. Dissenting and affirming opinions therefore are relevant in the matter.

To borrow a line from a great board member "Peace" :)

I've known Steve for a long time and had dealings with him....always the best and never a problem. Steve is a busy guy....used to live up north, moved to my neck of the woods and is always on the go.......

I think a little more patience is required when dealing with people....nobody knows the situation of the person they buy or sell to.

I sold a set of the wrong drums to a V8 member and he wanted a refund so i sent it to right out to him including the $50 he paid to have them turned and a stud pressed in.......i've been waiting for months for the return of my drums....am i roasting his A$$ on the board over it...no....i'm giving him the time to do the right thing.

    Steve.....you going to Auburn ?

Dave, for the record I'll have agree with Steve on this one, PaulGS had/has went out of his way to flame Steve for no reason. I do feel that I'm a little more then part of the "gallery" on this one, seeing how the sportwagon these are out of is setting in my driveway. As Steve had stated, he works out of state & is only here on the weekends, and believe it or not his family would like to spend some time with him! He has come over & been working on taking the wagon apart, the power locks was not the only item that was sold off of the car, and originally PaulGS seem'd to be in no hurry as he stated "No problem, Let me know when you send it"

I have been in the "Buick World" since I bought my first car (a '72 Skylark) when I was 15 years old(1982) and while I have no idea how long PaulGS has been "into" Buicks, or even what his last name is. I do know that between the "internet age" and all of the "Johnny come latelys" the land of Buicks as we know it has changed! It was all much easier, when you waited beside the mailbox for the GSXtra to come so you could check out the classifieds to get the parts you needed, I am originally from Flint, Mi. and spent many hours on the phone with people calling me from the ads I had placed, I even went so far as to "take orders" for parts wanted and would head out to the local junk yards as Flint was "BUICK CITY" and parts were plentiful then. Now this isn't to say that all new comers are trouble, but, we "The Buick Faithful" wanted our Buicks to be mainstream, thats what we have now, the same troubles and concerns of the other larger car clubs. And for that reason when I do list parts for sale, from now on it will be on E-Bay or some other Non-Buick only site. That way it will be equal for all parties envolved.
