Beware of Inline Tube

We have purchsed may items from Inline over the last several years. Recently, we ordered the long brake line for our GSX project and the next day realized I needed the rubber line that Ts into the metal lines that go to the rear wheel cylinders. When I called back the first order had not left so they agreed to add it on and ship both. The additional line was $23.00 extra. When the box arrived the long line was in there folded double which is OK but the additional rubber line was not there. HOWEVER the invoice showed the additional line was supposed to be in the box and the credit card slip showed the charge to our card. (Just an honest oversight no doubt). So I called to get the additional $23.00 hose shipped thinking nothing about it. I was put on hold for a long time and when the sales rep. Nick came back he informed me he had discussed it with his manager and there would be no additional hose shipped because it was in the box. (Now this was just another way of saying I was trying to beat them out of a $23.00 hose.) One would normally think that the person of the receiving end of the shipment would be in the best position to know if it was in the box or not. Nope, they tell me their shipping department at Inline is so good they do not make such mistakes! Excuse me but I hope they are so sure that it was worth losing a longtime customer over their overweighted opinion of their own infallibility. I even sent an email to their President but no response was forthcoming. So at least for me it is off to Classic Tube or another supplier. I will not return to Inline.

I am on a few of the Olds boards, and there are similar posts there as well.

Bad customer service means that they don't want the business.

Do what I do - complain, and post your results on a board that thousands will see, and avoid them!

Pretty expensive way to do business......a $23 part gets about $10,000 in bad publicity.

Whoa! I've been collecting sources for stainless steel flex brake lines...you just saved me from having to mess with some knuckleheads.

    Thanks for posting!

I've used FineLines here in Wadsworth, OH on several occassions and have had nothing but excellent results.

    David G de-modded....

I have also used FineLines once, and service was excellent. The fuel line I purchased turned out to not fit my situation, with mismatched stuff on my car, but I knew that possibility when I ordered. Didn't try to return it though, instead kept it and gave someone here a deal on it recently.

Jim, we deal with this problem from time to time with our suppliers where I work. Parts missing from the box, no damage to the box, and the item is listed as shipped on the packing slip. Some of our vendors are great about this stuff, but some are hesitant to credit or replace missing parts. Sometimes it takes a few calls, and getting THE sales mgr on the phone, or his boss...

    Jim,

I would have to agree with David here... make another phone call, and talk to someone in charge.

I just ran into an issue with Inline, they shipped me front to rear HT brake line, in with a ragtop complete kit. I called them, let them know the problem, and they corrected it without any questions. Sent me the new line, free of charge, it arrived about 3 days after they called me back.

A bit of inconvience, but I got an extra HT line out of it..

I just talked to whoever answered the phone, although it was a Friday at about noon that I talked to them first, he said he would call me right back, but I did not get that call until the following Monday.

So, I would rate my experience with their customer service about a "B", but in the end, they did come thru for me.

    perfect example...

Perfect example of when to put the ol' stoppage on the credit card. I agree with trying to speak with a manager type person but if they try to "stiff" you then stick it to them!

Oh! You bet I contested the charge on the card.

They were quite adament that management was consulted about my case. They had no doubt their quality control could not have allowed this to occur as I said. Plus, the Inline Pres ignored my heads up about what was going on. As I said I had been a good, regular customer for years and never had a problem. The sin is that when I did have a problem they would not make it right. Instead they implied I was trying to do them out of a $23.00 hose. No doubt this was a foolish business decision on their part. If I needed money that badly I certainly would not be restoring old muscle cars in the first place.

    Thumbs down from me

I have had a very bad experience from one of the owners of Inline Tube, John Kryta. He accused me of "Stealing" his idea and copying a decal that he sales and actually said he was going contact his attorney and start legal action!

Below is the letter he sent me (mis-spellings and all):

"Nice decal, looks just like the one I sold you, You could of changed it just a but to avoid legal trouble. I own Inline Tube And it is on my web site as an exclusive inline tube product ( copyrighted ) so be prepaird for legal action since on monday it will be turned over to our company attorney. Don't beleave me call my compititors They will tell you what a son of a bitch I am. Come up with your own ideas if you even have one.

    John Kryta"

I was already thinking of having some made and found out he already had this particular item for sale. I bought 1 and liked it. So I tried and tried to buy more to save us the time and touble of making them ourselves. Now keep in mind that I called Inline tube several times trying to buy these decals/stencils from them/him and they said they were not available any longer. So with no other choice we went back to "plan A" paid an extremely high $$$ amount to have someone locally produce a small quanity of them (had to have 50 made!). When he found out that I had some made and was selling a few extras to get some of my investment costs back, the response above is what he sent to me! He claims that he has a copyright on the USS Steel logo :Do No: ! I don't think so! I wrote back and set him straight, he later apologized but he's still a really arrogant person, I saw him this Summer at the GTO Nats. Can't wait to finish my '69 GTO so I can show it against his '69 GTO! Mysteriously after he saw that I had a few for sale on ebay he magically came up with some of the stencils and flooded ebay with them (for a while he had about 10 for sale on ebay at any given time) with buy it now prices that were $1 lower that mine. He even copied my ebay ad WORD FOR WORD including the part about having them made for ourselves for our current Project L79 Chevelle and GTO! He couldn't even come up with his own wording for an ad but said I was copying his idea, when in fact I had already talked to someone about making these stencils several years ago when I first saw an original gas tank with this logo! In his ebay ad he also said "...don't by from a copycat Scab..." referring to me!

In case you have never seen this before it is the USS steel logo that was on the steel coil before it was stamped into a gas tank. It is usually not visible on our old cars due to rust, dirt, undercoating or paint. Fortunately my GTO had the logo still visible so we could use it as a pattern for the new stencil/decal.

Sorry for rambling on, but I feel so strongly that this guy and company are really not someone I want to do business with...

Thanks for the heads up on these guys. I am just starting the build-up of my chassis on the 68 and after reading yours and others comments I wont consider them. Any company can make a mistake. Its how they respond and correct the problem that counts

I recently used them for a set of ss brake lines for a 65 GS (vert frame). They fit like the originals. I could not be happier, and they were $30 cheaper than Classic Tube. I would use them again, but hope not to ever have parts missing.

i, too, have made a couple of purchases from inlinetube in the past and have had no problems at all . i purchased all the brake lines for my 72 gs, 2+ years ago , from inline but i actually drove over to their previous place of business in fraser mi. they have since moved to a new location in shelby twp , north of detroit .

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

I have used them 4 times for brake and trans lines and never had a problem with parts missing.

I buy the rear rubber hose from Autozone for $18-20.
I try to buy all my parts locally and only order those unique items that
some companies specialize in for our "old car" crowd.

I have compared prices between Inline and Classic and they are usually
within a $1-5 on each item.

Jim, call them back and discuss with someone about the hose and the postings here about their company.

I agree....would be bad business to handle your problem the way they
initially tried so it would be worth another effort.

    Formed Lines

Just like Phil posted Fine Lines and Classic Tube is first class and the only ones to get the one year brake and fuel line set right on my 68 Corvette, AL.
