Well this will be my first buick buildup,it's a 73 455 and i've got a 67 430 that i'll be using the heads from(it's not here yet)with a rod thru the pan.I'll be running on a 3/8 mile oval in a stock type class that requires stock intake/exhaust and no lopey cams my question is what is the best stock type cast iron intake and what type of cam will idle fairly stock yet not rev past the stock bottom end?

THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION IS, "WHAT ARE THE RULES?" YOU HAVE TO BE ABLE TO INTERPIT THEM TO YOUR ADVANTAGE, EVEN IN STOCK TYPE RACING.

Rules say engine must remain stock in all aspects,i was just trying to get a feel on what to look for in stock type parts that will give the best power yet remain stock sounding.

SINCE YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE I'VE EVER HEARD OF RUNNING A BUICK IN CIRCLE TRACK, YOU MAY HAVE AN ADVANTAGE BECAUSE NO ONE KNOWS WHAT BUICKS CAME WITH. CAN YOU RUN THE STAGE 2 SETUP SINCE IT WAS AVAILABLE FROM THE FACTORY? IF 430 HEADS FLOW BETTER, CAN YOU RUN THEM ON THE 455? I DON'T KNOW WHICH EXHAUST MANIFOLDS FLOW THE BEST OR CAN YOU RUN HEADERS? CAN YOU RUN A DUAL QUAD SETUP FROM AN EARLY BUICK? WHAT IS THE COMPRESSION RULE? IS THERE A CUBIC INCH LIMIT? IF YOU ARE RUNNING AGAINST OTHER BIG BLOCKS OR EVEN CERTAIN SMALL BLOCKS YOU WILL HAVE YOUR HANDS FULL TO BE COMPETITIVE. BUT IF THE RULES ARE LOOSE YOU CAN BET THE COMPETITION IS BENDING EVERY ONE OF THEM. GOOD LUCK

    Rico,
I think all the cast iron intakes were pretty much the same. You might want to contact Greg Gessler on this BB. He can port and open up the stock exhaust and intake manifolds to flow better and lighten them up. Might as well bend the rules a little:Brow:

I ALWAYS try and follow the rules as I understand them.:bglasses:
