If there is a best intake for the 455 what might it be??? I've heard about all those intakes but what really works?? 1. Carb 2. fuel injected 3. other apps. What carb???
Russel, That is too vague of a question. What kind of car? What is it for?,racing or street? Do you want economy or all out speed? There are a wide variety of intakes for the 455,they all have there good points and bad,it's just a matter of what you intend to do with it. Even knowing that, it is still a matter of opinions according to who you talk to.:TU:
best intake well i'm installing a 455 into a 80 regal with a th400. ??? good street set up. intake??? do they, onyone make an injected set up??
Russell, You need to tell us the details of your buildup. What cam?, What compression? Rear axle ratio, and tire height. What RPM range do you intend to operate the motor. Is it race only, street car, or street strip? The stock intake is a good one, but heavy. The Edelbrock Performer is no better than the stock intake, but it is lighter. The SP1 from TA Performance is a great intake, but it is a single plane intake, and really shines at high RPM(above 5500) Everthing depends on your combination, and intended usage of the car.
build up I am still in the research phase of this build up. There is not a decent builder in Florida and will proberbly stend out to To performance or Jim Burck(spelling) My thought is a very streeyable, dependable 455. I'm 47 years old and really don't run street racing in years. (tickets, broken parts) Sleeper kind of car. Just a fun car. How about basic set-up?? Not Balls to the wall build up $$ dictate.
After market dual planes save about 40 lbs,I think? and you wont see much or no gain tell you go to like a SP1, but then you need a moter that is mainly operating in the 3000 to 6000+ rpm range and 3.55 gears or lower. A single plane like the SP1 will hurt your low end a little in a mild street car. it will still run fine, and it looks cool! just my 2 cents. Kelly
