The shape, size and terminal location is determined by a convention. The capacity of the internals are modular. The cosmetics of the case is what the end seller determines. For example: If someone says the like Optima, are they talking an Optima when they were made in the US or after they switched manufacturing to Mexico and began having quality issues? If they bought Optima online did the customer know you have to ship it back to the seller at their own expense in order to obtain an exchange? If they say they like NAPA are they talking one before or after the replacement warranty was trimed back? These are the type of important details that may not be picked up in a poll. ---------- Post added at 01:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:39 AM ---------- The issue with DEKA here is the closest seller is 100 miles from me. If you buy a JC made battery from say Walmart or a Kirkland from COSTCO you can take them back to any of their stores for warranty exchange. So the dealer network location and the length of the full replacement warranty matters most to me.
Which ones are these? And of them, which one will stand up to non-use and recharge again? I'd like to use the topper again someday. You know, the fake Delco plastic top. Mike
I really hope ya'll know that there is only like 3 factories that produce batteries in the WORLD! Interstate, Exon and another one i can't remember the name of ... Exon produces batteries under many name brands and in my opinion there just crappy junk.
Probably more info than anyone wished for, but here's a nice bunch of pages put together by a gent named Bill Darden: LEAD-ACID BATTERY MANUFACTURERS AND BRAND NAMES LIST: http://jgdarden.com/batteryfaq/batbrand.htm CAR AND DEEP CYCLE BATTERY FAQ: http://jgdarden.com/batteryfaq/ And don't confuse Ownership with Manufacturing Locations. In other words, just because a parent company owns different brands and different manufacturing locations, that in no way means production is run the same among all the plants under the one umbrella, and that goes for just about any large volume product, automotive-related or otherwise. I voted for the Optima - but tell you what after 2 weeks discharged down under 9 volts. Gotta have a tender or the Optima charger. I first put the restored car on the road last March, so this is my first winter in the garage.
I bought a battery last summer for my GS and it's a great battery. Whips my high compression 464 around like it a 4cyl honda without plugs! Bought it from Carquest and it's made by Eastpenn........... right in the good old USA! :TU:
I can't believe that Delco has as many votes is it does .o No: These are doubtless the most crappiest shortest lived battery ever made. Every single Delco I have had craps out right on cue when they hit about 2 years old. Even the one in my '03 Silverado. In 2005, it crapped out. Was working perfectly and then one day I stopped to get gas , finished and hit the key , would hardly turn over. Had to get a jump.
Deka is made in Reading Pa. They sponsor my friends race car. When I lived up there, 40+ years ago, I would go to the factory and buy blems for cheap. Great batteries!
One of our members was at the Deka plant a few years ago and mentioned it here: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?188765 They have my vote. Devon
I don't know what climate You live in but in a cold place they can't be beat:TU: The shop I work at part time would sell a lot more of them but the price is scary:eek2:
That's all I buy since finding that out a few years ago. Please guys. Give them a try. I have to travel past many stores and shops that sell everything under the sun to get to my closest Deka dealer. Well worth the trip. Support an American company and get a great product.:beers2:
I wouldn't mind giving them a try, however according to the Deka website, the closest place to get their batteries is 200 miles away. Can't justify driving 4+ hours to pick up a battery.
Not around here . The group 24 they sell are old timey with the fill plates that do not accept a topper . I did find A Carquest in the area that has the Deka batteries . Great battery & plain black box the topper fits . DL
How do find out the right size of battery to fit inside the stock tray of my 67 skylark? The current one while good is bigger than the tray. Just got tray cleaned up and coated and bought the oem style clamp. Would like to have the right battery that works with the oem style spring clip battery cables and is not too tall or big for the tray. Would eventually like to put the Delco topper on. Byas
