best cam for stock 350 daily driver

I don't know how old the valve springs are but in the cam kit it came with springs, lifters, seals, timing chain and gears. I need to check to see if the person installing cam kit is replacing cam bearings. Do I need specific bearings for 268 cam or is it a general set? Any info will be appreciated

 

Without disassembling the engine you can only change the front bearing. The front cam bearing is the first place the pressurized oil goes when it comes out of the pump. It is also the highest wear bearing in the engine. If the bearing is worn it will bleed off your oil pressure BEFORE it can get to the crank and rods where it is needed. TA grooved cam bearings are the best but even a stock replacement will be better than a worn old one. This is the cheapest and best improvement you can make to your engines oil system. People sometimes try to correct this with thicker oil, booster plates, adjustable regulators, high volumne pumps, but those are only band aid fixes and will cost more than simply pressing 1 new bearing in.

 

I had that cam in the past and was not impressed myself. Felt it needed more compression. Since you have springs and seals it would be a good idea to pull heads and get valve job with springs set properly. Would be a good time to port heads /possibly put in the bigger valves. Shave heads heads .030-.040 is what I would consider yo bump compression. Then add a 2500 stall convertor.but that's just how I would play it.

 

i just recently got back my 84 regal with my first ever sbb built with everyones help from this board, my car is super fun to drive and sounds like a beast and best of all its not a chevy sb like everyone elses gbody car. i used the ta212 cam, 71 heads and 72 block, stock 4 bbl intake, stock exhaust manifolds and 4bbl qjet from carmantx. i have true dual 2 1/2exhaust (no x-pipe) with flowmaster 40s and its more than enough!

just built another SBB 350 using the comp 268 for my niece's car. I did have the block decked to raise the static compression . other than that just a basic build. sounds good and has plenty of power to push her 4000lbs 78 firebird around with stock converter and 2.56 gears. This will be her daily driver once we are finished
