Has anyone ever done this to cover up bad chrome. Sitting here at work and going through the Opg catalog and thought about this? Just asking don't get crazy.
This is basically what it would look like. My '68 wheels have chrome centers (not painted) and a standard black rim with a trim ring from the factory.
Hi, Yeah a friend of mine has a 65 that he put trim rings from a Pontiac, Olds or Chevy to cover the rust/bad chrome. It looks better than what his rims do, all personal preference, check Craigslist as I see driver quality sets come up pretty regularly and usually under the 300 dollar range, last set I got was 250 with decent tires. Regards,
My wagon had the same thing as Mike's. Chrome center with body painted inner spokes with chrome trim rings. However the trip rings where long gone when I got here. I can tell by the marks on the wheels that trim rings where used. Tim
I bought trim rings for my chrome rally rims to hide the rust and they look good. Here is a pic off the internet of another example.
They are factory 14 x 6 but I think the trim ring gives them a deeper look than the all chrome 14x6 versions.
So on a 15 by 7 wheel maybe the three inch is too big. What are you guys running how wide Should I do 2 1/2 inch deep
Those are almost Identical to the wheels that were on my '71 from the factory. Easy solution to an expensive repair. ws
Here are the measurements that another member gave me, and I used these measurements when I bought my reproduction ones. Luckily the vendor had a display so I could measure them before buying. Angle is 2 5/8 inch. Flat, 3/4 inch. Depth measured with ring on flat surface, 2 1/4 inch.
I had never thought about that easy of a solution. Real sad is I have a set of beauty rings from another car, but think they were for 14" wheels...
I read the title of this thread and immediately thought to myself "eww, that'd look horrible!" But after seeing it, I have to say I stand corrected. I don't think that looks bad at all, I'm pleasantly surprised to be honest.
