I went to a car show in Madisonville, Louisiana last weekend and saw this beauty.

Would have liked to talk to the owner, but nerver found him.

Very nice, but Buick didn't make a 'Gran Sport' in the '64 year.

    Clean though.

They didn't make a "Gran Sport" but the dual quads were available from the factory along with the valve covers & air cleaner. The engine code was KX for the 2x4 set-up.

Didn't see that little tidbit of info. That's what you call "Paying Attention"!!!!! to the details.

Hey Gulfgears that was me, My name is Richard and I live in Ponchatoula, just recently moved there from the new Orleans area and I haven't posted here for a while ,had to re-register when I saw your post. Sorry I didn't get to meet you but I spent most of that day over at the wooden boat festival standing in the face painting line with the kids! Family first. Anyway thanks for the compliments,of course no Gran sports were made in 64 but the badges were on the car when I bought it and I can't take 'em off without a repaint, believe me no deception was intended on my part . The car also has a hood tach from a 70 GS which i'll keep because it gives the car a nice musclecar vibe. The car is a work in progress so consider these pics the "before" shot's .

Its not a factory 2x4 401, they never made such a unit.

Richard if that car is a work in progress, then the finished item would be too perfect to drive. (I have a friend with a GTO that he used to street drive until he over restored it, and now it's either sitting in his garage or in an enclosed trailer, where's the fun?). Your car looked great, but it scares me when I think of bringing out my mostly original Skylark and winding up close to such a great looking car. I'm afraid people we laugh at my plain jane car.

Did you noticee the purple Packard under the tree? That belongs to a friend of mine. I belive there are more Packard's in St.Tammany than anywhere else in the country.

Great looking riviera... also from louisiana (prairieville) I'm working on a 58 buick with a 425 nailhead.....and before someone jumps on me its not stock at all. Great to see louisiana making an appearance here.

I was at a small show in Prairieville Saturday and saw a green 63 or 64 riviera put he jumped in it and took off before I got to meet him. I was the same color as yours Dave.

Whats up Gary?..I've met that guy at a ROA get together. Its a dark green 63 with white interior. Mine is almost done!!! And for the record,..I'm completely aware that dual quads only came on the 425. However, I also know the only difference between the 401 and 425 is the bore size. So if you happen upon a factory 2x4 manifold, linkage, kickdown bracket and correct distributor like I did, you can bolt it on, add some carter afbs and smoke tires. People with 401's do this all the time!!! Dave Smith out.

Lest we not forget that the dual quads could also be ordered over the parts counter and put on any 401/425 starting in 1964. The original 1966 2x4 setup came in a box in the trunk and was installed at the dealership. The only problem with putting it on a 59 - 62 401 or 63 401/425 is the kickdown linkage for the dynaflow. I would imagine that if you used your original single AFB for the rear carb, this would be no problem.

Thanks again for the compliments guy's  But in all fairness the car does have it's faults and it's been my mission since I got it to fix them, so that's what I mean when I say it's a work in progress. When I got the car the wiring was a mess ,aftermarket radio and gauges mounted under the dash with the wires jammed into the fusebox(remember high school?)yep i've done it myself. I have removed the gauges and wired the radio properly but The car still suffers from resistance throughout the elec. system and i'm considering rewiring it altogether. The engine runs extremely strong ,but gives a puff of smoke on startup sometimes from bad stem seals ,I have a finned aluminum valley cover but I need to machine off some of the fins for clearance under the dual quad manifold(of course I didn't realize this until I was putting the manifold back on) there was no kickdown for the tranny when I got it and I solved that with a Lokar unit.I am also working on a new suspension which will incorporate coilovers in the front and modifying the 3-link in the rear for adjustability with better springs and dampers. Eventually I will get around to the body and remove the gran sport emblems. Unfortunately with the recent move I am losing my garage and until I build a new one I have nowhere to do any extensive work or painting.I am putting the finishing touches on my wife's barn for her horses today(I should be out there right now...beer break):beer Anyway I look forward to meeting some of you locals and sorry if this post got a little long winded. sincerely Richard Bell ,Bell Horsepower Ranch
