Several of the aftermarket speed part houses have kits to relocate the battery to the trunk. Check Summit or even Year One. - Bill

Not sure about NHRA, but this is what I did. I bought a boat/RV battery case at Wal-Mart for $6 or something. Buy one of the new Exide Orbital or Optima batteries. They are sealed and won't put acid vapor in your trunk, or blow up and spread acid everywhere. Go to your local welding supply or Big R Supply and get some 1/0 welding cable to use for cable. Have the terminals crimped at your battery warehouse. If you're going racing in the Riv, you'll need a disconnect in the right rear of the car that is "clearly visible" and labeled OFF and ON to pass NHRA tech. Also, the battery must be retained with a minimum of 3/8" bolts. I used long carriage bolts with huge fenderwashers under the trunk floor pan, and a piece of 1" steel strap drilled for the bolts over the battery. I'm not sure what the reg is there, but they haven't hit me with it yet.

That's the budget way out. I'm pretty sure that one of the Summit kits is marked NHRA legal but you pay a lot for smaller cable and such.

Does it have to be srcured to the frame or just the floorpan? Tim

    The BEST Trunk Mount Battery

MAD Enterprises in California offers the best trunk mounted battery set up on the market. They offer a complete kit. And in the long run I think ends up cheaper than piecing it together. They use a Ford solenoid located at the battery, that way juice is only flowing when the car is running. The way it is secured is a tray that is bolted to the trunk floor then a marine case is inserted into that. The wires they use are called tuff wire which is much better than the average wire that you find on the market. I installed this kit in a 69 Skylark that I later wrecked, the hit was directly in the front right corner where the battery used to be, if it was still there it would have been taken out. But with the batter in the trunk I fired it up and was able to drive it to get it out of the street. He has testimonials of others in accidents and roll overs with the battery being secured and causing no damage.
