Hi everyone. I have a bobcat that I 've been using and its not charging and someone screwed with the wiring. Its 30 years old, so thats to be expected. The wiring is very basic. Whats need to complete the charging circuit. I have a new battery and a new alternator and it doesn't charge the way it is hooked up. Is there a way to wire it to get it to charge with just a few runs of wire?

    Thanks

    Bob

    hmm maybe

i was just aasking about alts in another post actually the one below your's and idoxlr8 is talking about using a self exciting bobcat alt in his car lotsa good info in the post about rigging up alternators, but im pretty sure its generally just alternator output to volt reg (or internal reg?) then to battery side of start solenoid, battery cable from solenoid to bat then grounded battery i might be wrong though :Do No:

    Madcat455 Need..more... AMMO!!!

If its like a GM internally regulated unit, then all you need is to run a wire from the POS side of the battery to the output post on the alt, then run the Field wire to the ALT output post as well. Make sure the NEG battery cable is hooked to the block...

ran that way on my 455 for 4 yrs, no problems.

Externally regulated.... Can't help ya, I've never delt with one, sorry.

    Good Luck.

Ya, it would be a internally regulated GM alternator... Thats a real simple circuit... thanks guys for the input!

I bought one from Summit and it has only one wire, the one that goes to the battery! In fact I bought two, and will probably buy more for the other cars.

    Simple, and it works.
