I have a 70 stage 1 with a very stout built 455. It now has a holley 850 carb on top of a cool runner intake and i have this barry grant 1000 cfm silver claw carb that i want to try on it. Is this too much carb for the motor and what would be a good jetting size to start out with. The holley 850 is now jetted at 82 front and 88 rear with a 50 accelerator pump and no power valve in the rear. The barry grant that i have has #160 jets in the front and rear and no power valves with 31 squirters and 30 accelerator pumps even all around. Any info would be great thanks.

    160 jets?

Are you sure this isn't an alcohol carb?

I have a 1000 SC on my stage 1 and it works fine. From my often-poor memory, I have 78 and 82 jets in it (4000 ft elevation), other than that, it is in out-of-the-box calibration. It works fine although throttle response is down slightly from the Q-Jet I took off.

The part # is 6563010 GP. I have never seen a carb jetted this way? Thats why i asked to see if anybody ever had one set up like this. Are you using a 50 accelerator pump in the rear and any power valves.

I think that Adam is right and this is a alcohol carb. You could always call Demon and ask them for their opinion.

Yes i did and they confirmed that it is a gas carb. I have the orig box that it came in and it says gas carb on it. But the jetting is odd?:jd:

I'd ask about it having the correct metering plates for gas. Maybe it was converted? You'll have to ask BG for that as well.

Those are definitely not the jets that came with the carb new if it is a gas carb.

I ran 2 power valves for a while and then read something about secondary power-valves causing problems at high acceleration. I also figured that if I was in the throttle enough for the secondaries to be open, having a power valve was not going to give me anything beneficial.

I am not a holley/BG guru, mostly Q-jets and TQ's in my past. But carb tuning is pretty much the same except for the fine points. When it comes to the fine points of the 4150 style carb, I'm not at all an expert....

Those jets might be Max Jets. They use a different numbering system. I think Comp Cams makes them? Not sure.

    Have fun.
