What you have to consider is the fact that if you have celebrities that are at these auctions,so they want to play "show-off" for their buddies and for TV.I was sick when I saw that pro-wrestler pay 112,500 for that 69 Camaro!!!!:eek2: The strange thing was it wasn't a Yenko:confused:

It is true, there are a lot of people that have deep pockets and no brains.

Yardley, you are right,P.T.Barnum did have the right idea!

I was wondering whether it's like the cattle auctions where they serve booze free before the event to liberate the buyers' wallets.

But somebody said nothing is free. I'd have to be pretty loose (read that drunk) to spend that much on those cars. Even then, I already know too much.

How about that 53 Skylark for $86K. Now that's some serious chump change by anyone's standards.

    As a matter if fact...

I did say nothing was free..

You pay $300 to register as a bidder (besides proving that you have enough $$ to pay up if you buy something..).

One of the benefits of the registration is access to the 'bidder's bar'...where cute girls in tight T-shirts give you 'free' drinks made with good liquor and poured generously..

You are right..it helps loosen you up to spend your money!

I bet those free drinks on on the strong side! That way it loosens up the wallet (and brain) so that they will be more willing to go crazy! B-J does have the right idea and execution of it to maximize their profits. You gotta give them credit for that! I would love to see it in person someday, but even if I had the money, I doubt I would buy ANYTHING from there. Makes you wonder if there are "ringers" out there to push up the price on some of the cars that are projected to sell high. You just never know! Brian :Brow:

    Superbowl

I heard the BJ auction repeatedly described as 'the superbowl of classic car auctions' over the few days I was there.

The cars certainly look good and seem well prepared..even if they all don't have the right engines or other details.

There are certainly dogs in among the beauties.

But BJ executes very well..they have 30+ years of experience at this point..and they attract a lot of well-to-do guys who wanna buy a car..some know what they are doing..others just take a gamble.

If you want to sell a classic, you are likely to get the best dollar..though you have to allow for the fees and transportation.

For a few days of car fun in usually nice weather..it's great.

PS..I am not a ringer..I just liked being there!
