    The converter bolts were tight.
The input shaft broke, that's why I pulled it.

Better check your crankshaft end play. It could of taken out the thrust bearing and the crank

X3, and I am going to tell you how I know. My 94 1500 Chevy 4X4 350 broke the crank at 140K miles. So I had a reman engine installed. It started making noises, ugly ones. Luckily we discovered it before it destructed, it had about 1/4" end play. They decided the converter balooned which caused all this mess. Another engine and a new (supposedly) non-balooning converter and all was well. But I sold it and got a 2500 anyway, I was pretty sick of it by then.

Ok. I understand what happens when it balloons.
It happened to my 350 motor, the crank was even hitting the block.
But, what is this an indication of? Why would the paint be rubbed off both surfaces?

What exactly causes a converter to "balloon"?

Excessive line pressure, drag racing, abrupt application of load and cheap converters

It would be wise to go through the trans to make sure the front pump didnt get damaged as well.

My TCI street fighter took out my crank and my transmission two years ago. My new converter was $800.

Hmm....now ya got me thinking. Can't afford those expensive ones. What brand in between 200 and 800 that would be better?

You aren't thinking, you're worrying:Dou: You won't be able to sleep now. Relax, I don't think you have anything to worry about unless you were drag racing the car with sticky tires, and even then I doubt it. Jim Weise sells some quality converters for very reasonable prices.

It is not a race converter, it only cost $200.00
The converter is from Bowtie OD.
I'll be going with a BossHog from ACC.
