Hiya all!!! Long time , no see. Been otherwise occupied, but ready to jump in again! I seem to have made a small vibration in my drive shaft worse after 4oo miles of Cruising the Coast and multiple burnouts.

I have changes all three u-joints and pinion seal that was leaky. My question is the instaalation of the new parts. As you can see from the pic, the old one had one spring installed and did NOt have the 3 "seats-just some sort of flexible material. As I have a habit of ruining a part banging on it like a monkey, or otherwise doing something stupid, I'm looking to y'all once again for advice.
Also, about the pinion flange. After removing it to replace the seal it seemed to have a *little* play in it. After trying to count the threads when installing the nut again (I did NOt replace any bearings-beyond my pay grade), and believeing I have it near to it was originally, the flange can "clock" left and right a small amount. Am I right in assuming that has to do w/ the gears and the backlash and otherwise ok?

All in all, it was a good learning experience since I have never changed a u-joint or seal.... (fingers crossed it fixes the vibration and I don't screw up the rest of the install)

Looks like you ruined some essential parts so I would say get another one to start over ...
Pinion seal - sounds like you just do not have the pinion nut tight enough to re crush the sleeve again. or you have a burr on the thread foooling you that it is tight and you have to work past it to getr the bearing seating in there races at the proper preload again.

Did you install a new crush sleeve or are you just tightening the old one again? Jim

Just installed new seal over existing crush sleeve or bearing-whatever it's called. I did do some research on it and it seemed many people didn't necessarily need a new one. Should there be no play in the pinion flange? According to some, it was a non-issue.
What do you think I may have ruined?

EDIT: I should state that I have a loose tranny mount and some of the spiders looked liked they were a bit galled. The consensus from some friends at last weeks cruise was at least the front u-joint was loose. also in that ball seat- there was absolutely no grease, just those "chunks" in the pics. the shop manual seems pretty straight forward, but I don't want to slip up now. when all is said and done, if it's still there, I will try to tighten the pinion nut again. worse case scenario-POSI (cheap posi-nothing new...)
