OK Group, I sold my old wheels & slicks, but I can't remember if I had the Slicks balanced or not?? Should I balance the new ones or not???? What is this groups' professional opinion.

absolutely-i believe the benisek/kent appollo lost an axle bearing in bowling green one year and they eventually chalked it up to poor slick balance.

    Yep... definatley good to balance.

Just don't just those "Clip on" weights:eek2: :Dou: ... Tape on weights covered in duct tape(any good balancer wil be able to adjust for the extra weight of the duct)... or nothing at all.

I used to race on street tires with "Clip on" weights untill one came off and went through the other guys windshield... boy was he pi$$ed.

    BUBBLE BALANCE ONLY.....

Spin balance does not work on slicks due to the distortion they see throughout a run.

I still want to see photos of your car...

Thanks, I'll be getting the new slicks mounted, put rim screws in, then see if I can find a shop who can bubble balance. The car is almost ready to move under its' own power, still some loose ends to tie up, then wash off the 3 1/2 yeasr of dust and then I'll get some pictures on the board.

I'm running 15 x 10 Cragar superlite rear rims with 29.5 x 11.5 mickey thompson slicks. If the rims would have had a 1/4 in.more bs I could just fit a 30x10w, which is huge, but the guy I bought the rims from had them advertised as 6 3/4 bs, which is what I wanted, but they actually were 6 1/2s', I bought them thru a web site. Bogart front rims, 15 x 3 s'. I was running VW front tires, too small and not speed rated, so I got the MOROSO 29 in. racing skinnies. No tubes, save some weight, but will "screw" the rims.

6.5 BS works? I have 5.5 and they are close to frame and shock mount

Hey Bruce, I can fit a 10 inch rim with a 6 1/2 in. BS and a slick with about a 13 1/2 in. section width in my '65 because I did a mini tub on it. I cut the rear frame rails down the seam and welded new plate in, also there isn't any outer wheel well, the inside of the rear quarters is now the wheel well, and alittle baseball bat "rolling" is all it took. I used to run 28 x10s' on 8 in. rims, they just fit, if I remember right...Regarding the lower shock mount, I just redrilled it up like an inch, which is actually better for the Southside lift bars I'm running, also an air bag in the right rear, this set up with old 462ci on nitrous and the 10 in slicks was good for 1.55 60 fts. 10.44 @ 128.

    Oh OK, now I see......

yeah, I always bubble balance.....and recheck after every 25 runs or so. It does change! Re-balancing prevents a heavy spot and resulting uneven wear......like holes showing on one part and none on another.....been there.
A bubble balancer is your friend!
