I am still having problems with my engine bogging and missing I got rid of the smoke finally it was a bad modulator valve sucking the transmission fluid in the engine. Under acceleration it will miss on one or two cylinders then bog sometimes so bad if you keep the pedal down the engine will bog until it dies. It's mostly after it warms up but is always slightly missing. The plug wires are in no way bad and the timing is dead on. The points are great the condensers been replaced, and the coild is accell the one the ignition man dave I tihnks his name? He recommended this type of coil at one time... Is it the coil?

coil could be responsible for the miss. The bog/dies is more likely carb

hmm guess i'll do a poor mans job and spray some carb cleaner in the carb move the valves a bit then change the coil with an old shelfer. I dont know about the carb it's new and it was working fine. It's too small tough maybe setting the accelerator pump to a leaner setting? It has 3 stages I have it in the top hole so that is the leanest I think. Since it's too small a carb I have a hard time deciding which is best for the buick.

Ouch. From your description it sonds like an Edlebrock or Carter. Can't give you any help with tuning that. Get a Q-jet back on there.
Could be a bad timing chain, too...

A timing chain after 8,000 miles? I sadly was thinking the same thing. My quadrajet is clean and never wanted to work the rebuilder everyone recommended from here hasn't responded to my e-mail with a price yet.
