    436'd Skylark Sweet Fancy Moses!!!!!

I go to school full time, and work 35 hours a week. I work monday, wednesday, friday and the occasional saturday, while going to school tuesday and thursday..... ALL DAY LONG. I get up at 8:30, and come home at 9:00. I make good money as a mechanic, sometimes I think to myself I should drop and take the cash. normally within a few days I'll do a job that really sucks, like tune up a new ford truck, and I'll want to learn again.

Its a tough thing to do. It takes alot of discpline to have good attendance, especially when there is no one to yell at you if you skip. Its alot easier to take a nap than to go to class. If your working hard, the way a man would work, at school and turning wrenches, at the end of the day, your beat, just in time for your night class......... :ball: :ball: :ball:

sometimes I wish I had a :spank: :spank:   :Smarty:

I'm not sure how many we're 'allowed' but if the speeding were taking place with a race, you automatically lose your license for a year

IIRC (it's been a few years since I got my driver's license), the rule in TX for new drivers is that the first 6 months is a probationary type period. Don't screw up in that first 6 months and you're in the clear.

Only because you mentioned your desire to join the military, sounds like you're not against doing a physical job, have you ever thought of joining a union? Perhaps carpenters, laborers, pipefitters, etc. Make good $$$, excellent benefits, and not a whole lot of training/school.

    Mike,
You are a perfect example of what I "teach" other people; the "What If" principle, and the reason NOT to go "back to school"!

"What If" you become (handicapped, injured, etc.) and you could NOT work (as physically as you are used to, or had been used to), anymore? HOW do you "make money", IF you "CAN'T" work?!:Do No: (MOST people DON'T have an answer, which is why I GIVE them the answer!) :Smarty:

"What If" you died and your family depended on your life insurance policy as "temporary income" after your death? (Only to find out the Insurance Company KEEPS most of your policy! :Smarty: :af: )

I've worked (and work) WITH (but, NOT "for") the Largest credit card company in the world, for 4 years, now, and have learned to help myself, and to teach others, HOW to become Debt Free (I own my house. I own ALL 8 of my cars. I OWN everything that I have, but I DON'T "OWE"!), How to Save money AND How to Make money, the easiest way that I have ever found! It has NEVER been a "secret", it's just that people are never TAUGHT how to save and spend for their needs! :Smarty: :Do No:

The BIGGEST reasons that I never went to College, or never WILL go to College are:

    1) Staying OUT OF DEBT! (Student Loans + High Interest Rates = Bad Combination!) Anything over "0%" Interest is HIGH Interest! :Smarty:

    2) Teaching OTHERS about reason #1!

    3) Making MORE money, FASTER (and "easier", in my opinion), without having to pay Loans back (if you never have them in the FIRST place!)

    4) FREE TIME! (Just got back from Mexico, yesterday, from a "weekend vacation". Going to Vegas in 2 weeks, for another "weekend vacation".) I go WHERE I want, WHEN I want (without having to ASK a "Boss" for Time Off!)

I'll just say this, as long as people "Buy Houses" and "Have Families", then I will never have to worry about Money again! YOU shouldn't, EITHER! :Smarty: :Do No:

I went through the same thing, Jeff, for a LONG time, and the "solution" is simpler than you think (no matter who says otherwise!:Smarty: ).

If you want to MAKE money, then you have to WORK WITH "WHERE" the money IS! A "union" job might offer more "Job Security" , but the money is the SAME, no matter WHERE you go! Ask ANYONE if they are "really" HAPPY with the money that they make, and the answer is ALWAYS "NO"! Everyone WANTS "more", but they "settle" for what they get, and it's their own fault.

Get "more" than you want, if you think that you "deserve" more! :Smarty:

Careers to consider, that will ALWAYS be "profitable":

    Banking
    Debt Consolidation
    Real Estate
    Life Insurance
    Investing (Stock broker)
Financial Planning (a combination of all of the above. My #1 Choice :TU:   , and growing, NOW, more than ever!)

Good Luck, however you choose! :TU:

    Kids, kids, kids...

    Listen up.

    GO AWAY TO COLLEGE!

    Why?

Even if it isn't for you, do it for a year.

    Why?

Consider this dynamic: you will NEVER AGAIN have the opportunity to be living in a situation where literally thousands of people who are your age and with your interests are within a beer's reach... er, uh, I mean stone's throw and WITHOUT any supervision. A unique situation for sure.

You'll make life-long friends and be exposed to a lot of different people, opinions and concepts. It will broaden your horizons.

Oh, and you'll learn the subtle nuances of binge drinking and staying awake for days on end.

I actually worked this summer as an intern doing a combination of sales and also facilities work. I really enjoyed the facilities part, there was some labor involved, but the part about doing something different just about every day got pretty interesting. It's something I have considered as a career, though there are other things I'd like to do instead.

There is so much irony in here, I don't even know where to begin... I worked as an intern for a large credit card company as well (MBNA) and I'm now going to school on the scholarship they're providing for me. So reasons one and three are thrown out for me!

I actually do know what I want to do... It's just more than one thing, and the hard part is deciding between them as they're in very different fields. I'm of the belief that I'd rather love my job and make nothing than hate it and make a lot. Both would be great, which is why I would like to go into a career that has that kind of opportunity.

For a long time I had my mind made up. The plan was to major in mechanical engineering and try and get hired on to a race team as an engineer or mechanic. Because it's a competitive industry, I would have a degree which would give me options if it didn't work out. Lately, however, I've grown passionate about politics and government (I know, it sounds lame) and have increasingly considered a political science degree with a career in political consulting.

I'm going on to a University next year which has a fairly good program in both areas, so I got another year and a half or so to decide.

 Jeff, you are really "freaking me out" here, because you have the SAME "philosophy" as ME! :eek2: I've done a "180*" with my "work ethics", because I got tired of "taking orders" (being TOLD what to do, by other people who weren't even as "qualified" as me to DO what I CAN and Already WAS doing), and only getting paid what any company would "allow" me to have. I have NEVER "asked" for a raise. I should "automatically" get it, if I'm doing what the company expects, or rather if I EXCEED their expectations. Companies WON'T do that, though, because it's not in THEIR best interest!

That's why I chose to be "Independent" with whatever I do! I will never work FOR anyone, ever again (meaning I will not have a "Boss" telling me what to do!). I work WITH people, but I do not work FOR them. There is a difference (I can QUIT, if I choose, BUT, I can never be "FIRED")! :Smarty:

I started out with very similar ideas to what YOU have, right now! My "Ultimate Career" found me, as I wasn't even looking for it. I posted a resume on the Net, and I got an interview, and "HIRED" the very next day. I've been with the Company for almost 4 Years now, but I've LOVED it, AND I make "easy" money ($400-$1,200/week, just for getting Signatures)! :TU: )

Jeff, As a Financial Planner, in another "year and a half" (that you say you have to "decide"), would you be interested in a $50,000 income? If that's not enough to get you "motivated", then I probably can't help your decision.

Especially since you already have "credit card" experience, you already have the potential to be where you want to be (you're just working for the "wrong" company :Brow: :TU: )!

PM me, or Email, if you might want more info, so we can keep the Board Space "free" and keep "detailed" discussions elsewhere. :TU:
