Axle broke, split outside of outer bearing, tire completely off with brake drum housing and end of axle still bolted to rim. thinking just bad axle, or ??? How so happy wasn't on highway or high speeding it, in gas station parking lot, stop to get chips/ drink, got back in car, reverse to drive and "BAM, What the HE--" !!!!".. SMH....
Its ok, now... was totally totally pissed all weekend !! till monday at salvage yard shopping for a good axle and what do i find, S10, 2 wheel drive blazer with 8.5, 10 bolt rear with rear disc brakes, axle replacement and rear disc brakes, memorial day half price sale, "rear end, up-grade time".. wooo woo !!
Question for everyone, had 30 spline axles, should i go back with 30 spline or 28 spline, heard i can go with either, but which or either have a better performance then the other ?
Dang. Any pictures of the broken one apart/removed? The difference between 28 and 30 spline is strength. Depends how much power you are making and how often you beat on the car. If you never see a sticky drag strip while using drag radials or slicks, you'll more than likely be fine with 28 spline.
Will a Blazer/S10 rear fit under a 68-69 A Body Buick? If the axles are 30 spline, so must the Posi carrier be 30 spline. What exactly are you planning on doing?
That's what I thought Mark. That looks like a 68-69 Skylark/GS in the pictures. Should be an 8.2 in there now if stock rear.
Being that the rear was 8.5 with discs, it is PROBABLY a 3.42 gear; if not then it is a 3.08. Was the driveshaft a one piece or two piece? Two piece is for the factory "sport " rear (3.42) which had the 16 inch wheels. Lucky find...
Oh no guys, 8.2 been scrapped 3 years ago, what we have now is a1972, 30 spline, 10 bolt, 8.5, with bolt in axles. as for the s-10 rear, just removed the disc brake assembly from it, the s10 came with an 10 bolt also, the construction is the same of any other 10 bolt, rear disc including backing plate, is a direct fit to any other 10 bolt.
okay guys me again, got new axle installed but now this axle clicking, the same way the old one did, before it split.. beginning of drive no noise at all, after about 8-9 miles, driver tire starts to make a clicking sound can't even see the vibration of the sound into the tire, but like I said only starts after it heats up while after driving for a little while.. could this just be weak gearing lube they have in the rear end or what ? any suggestions
