Not much to say other then it's hard living life, saving money, putting money away fro retirement, house upkeep AND building my 482. After that doing the rest of the car.

To reach my goals my 401K adviser told me I need to raise my contribution to 12% So thats exactly what I just did.... As im eating leftovers for lunch, im on here dreaming of when the car will be built and this will all be worth it. And obviously retirement. But until then....LOL

Also I learned that whenever I buy a new part for the build I have to tell the other half that it's 1/2 the cost of what it really was. So far this has worked out pretty well.

If you buy used parts, tell her you ‘traded some stuff you had for it’. She doesn’t have to know the ‘stuff’ was money...

I told my wife if I was to die that she would sell the parts in the garage for double what I told her I paid and to add 25% of what I told her the car was worth when she was to list it for sale:p:D. Needles to say I got the glare of death and my PayPal account is now being monitored :(

Yep, one of my biggest fears is when I die, my wife sells my cars and my guns for what she *thought* I had in them.....

    :D:D:eek:

B Rock, I know what you mean on trying to save. Trying to build one of my cars, but the wife wants to redo part of the house. She keep adding to what she wants to do. But she gave me the go ahead to build a garage, but of coarse need to pay off the house remodel.

B-rock, the 401 K is worth the pain it causes putting away the money for retirement. Just make sure you are saving enough, as you probably know 4% withdrawal is about the maximum withdrawal you can take and remain some what confident you will not run out of money. My wife knows the cost of my car, she calls it the Money Pit. Retirement is great except for one thing, it means your are getting old and that sucks!

I never lie to my wife. She knows all my transactions. Plus you cant fool them they know your tells and when they find out they lose respect.
B rock is thier anything you could sell off to put some money in your pocket.

Consider the old fashion way like yard sales, selling some type of service, selling at swap meets, opening up a a candy house,...
Think long and hard, the hustle is in you because I can tell or else you would not have made this thread. You can do it.

Eating leftovers for lunch shouldn't be a punishment!

I work with a guy who cries broke all the time. He can barely pay his rent and keep gas in his car. He easily spends 20-30 a day going to the store for lunch, snacks and coffee.. He is out to eat for dinner with his girlfriend about every other night too. He has no idea where his money is going.

It takes a little bit to get adjusted to a 401k change but you will feel better about things in about a year. Pay raise usually bounces you back to feeling like you have money again. Usually when that happens I reevaluate my stuff and see what I can sell to keep a project moving forward maybe you sell another project you can't see yourself getting to. Since I have many different hobbies I may sell off something from one hobby to fund another, or if I get out of one hobby I would have money to spend on another.

Biggest mistake I made was cutting right back on retirement account contributions when the stock market crashed. Putting more money into a fund that was bleeding away thousands, once or twice tens of thousand, every month seemed stupid.

In reality keeping up the investment would have meant buying stocks and bonds at bargain prices that would reap bigger rewards when the market rebounded. Now - with maybe a year before I retire I am way below where I could have been had I kept investing. Had I done so I probably would have retired already.

I don't lie to my wife. I may omit to mention stuff but if I'm called out on it I'll fess up and face the music :)

Guys, I don't lie to my wife nor do I think any of the other guys above do either. It's more of a joking statement that car guys say about telling their wives half the cost of the parts that they bought. In reality my wife supports my hobby and often encourages me to buy items for the car. She even joined a buick group on Facebook (I don't have Facebook) to help search for parts and info for me.:)

I didn't check to see how old you are, but I did the savings thing and after ten years of comfortable retirement, I'm really glad that I did. Most of us will live long enough to retire; my one fear in life was to be old and broke. I can't do anything about being old, but I sure as hell can avoid being broke.

In reality, she would probably do well if she sold the cars for what she thought you had in them. We usually have way more invested in our cars than they're worth.
