Everyone is welcome. I hope that if others come across similar deals, they will share them also. I'm not rich by any means and anywhere I can save money I will. And I'll definitely pass it on if I can.

BTW, the manager said they will be discontinuing air filters as well so everyone needs to check on those. They might not fit Buick V-8's, but they might work with your daily driver or someone else's that you know.

That is very wrong, the manager i was talking to was going above and beyond to try to get me the ones to be destroyed, the one i found was in the throw away pile in back. I'm going to write a letter to corporate about this manager that we were looking for a part and looking all over for it. and blah blah blah.

Thanks to youse guys for the heads up on the M1-203 oil filters. I stopped by an Autozone last nite and scored one, then stopped by six more on the way to the dentist's office today and scored another six! Not bad for 7cents! Thanks again! :TU:

I would have bought another two but at the last Autozone, the staff turned into a bunch of @$$h*les once they ran the register. The clerk goes that's not right. I said that the filters were being clearanced, and that the register was right. He called the snot nosed kid of a manager over and oh yeah, they couldn't sell it to me. It was against corporate policy and it was a fire-able offense if they did sell it to me. I said why not sell them to me and make a couple of cents, instead of throwing them in the trash and making nothing. I said other stores sold them to me with no problem, but I wasn't going to rat them out and get someone in trouble if what he said was true.

I can't complain too much, I got $70 worth of filters for 7cents, but come on get a life. Does that clown think I am going to come back to his store to buy anything after his little tirade?

What I do think that was interesting, was that out of the seven filters I bought from five different stores, there were two different box designs, and the filters were painted three different colors (white, gray, and black). But hey, I'm easily amused, just ask my wife.

But they all did have one thing in common, they were all dusty.

But thanks again guys, I got a couple of other stores in the area that I plan on raiding! :beers2:

I'd say that pretty much explains why they are discontinuing this filter... if they are sitting on shelves collecting dust, they are not making AZ money. That shelf space could be used for another row of junk Fram filters...

I called the Mobil 1 Filter Hotline today. :)

They say the M1-203 is not discontinued. Just because AutoZone decided not to carry it any more does not mean we won't be able to get it. They suggested Pep Boys and O'Reilley's in my area. YMMV.

The Customer Service lady I spoke to (very helpful) said they had CASES of them in the warehouse, how many did I want???

no the question is how many cases do we need to buy to get a serious discount. if i can get the mobil 1 filters for 6 bucks a pop to make them comparable to the other filters i'd buy a case or so.

  9. BINGO, you hit the nail on the head.. thats why the filters arent selling well. the average guy is going to go for the 6 dollar filter 9 out of ten times and then you take into account the fact that the market segment that the filter fits is small you end up with minimal sales.

Yeah there are very good performing filters out there for $5 or $6. AC, Wix, Napa Gold, etc. No need to spend $10.99 for the Mobil 1 filter. But maybe you guys are on to something. Maybe we can convince Mobil to do a group purchase on them and cut us a deal. It's obvious that they don't move too many at $11 a pop.

Jim is a former Exxon exec I think so he's the one who should do all the talking.

Maybe tell them you'll take a pension cut for a deal. :Do No:

Scored another one last Friday. I wonder what would happen if I took my receipt to one of those stores like WalMart that advertise their 'meet or beat policy'? My receipts say nothing about clearance or discontinued merchandise.
A receipt in one hand, and a case of filters in the other.....

You know, that's actually a pretty good idea. Might not get them for a penny but maybe at cost?
