5 pm update brings Dorian’s track west close to the coast. https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at5+shtml/155815.shtml?cone#contents
I'm starting to dread Septembers, based on recent years: Matthew in 2016, Florence in 2018, now we got Dorian in 2019. the state was FINALLY getting around to repairing a bridge and road between a two towns nearby. Looks like THAT will have been a waste of time... Looks like Wednesday and Thursday will be the fun time for me.
Nope, not yet. That's where I am. I would say it is very nice and breezy, but definitely not tropical force winds. We are told late morning tomorrow.
OK, I have done all I can do. Cleaned up the yard the best I could. I don't want all my stuff to go away, and the next day I have all this Chevy and Ford crap in my yard and my Buicks are gone.
I just took a shower. I was so filthy dirty because it was so hot and sweaty down here all day long as I was preparing.
I think there is a conspiracy theory going on. That hurricane is not turning to the north. I don't know what they show on TV, but it is not true. This beautiful looking, perfectly symmetrical, storm is coming straight for us.
I accidentally found the coolest satellite loop. It shows the nightlights of southeastern United States along with the hurricane. I can't send video because I don't know how, but I will take four different picture shots. I love the night lights across the United States!
As big and as powerful as this storm is, it may just defy all odds and do what it wants and come straight through Florida
Good morning all. First, a shout out to BYoung. Thank you for that video. It was very informative. Another day of anxiously sitting around waiting for the storm to do something. This morning in West Palm Beach... just a grey rainy day. When a shower rolls through the wind picks up a bit. Right now it is 79 degrees and believe it or not, way less humid than yesterday's 90 degree day with a heat index of 105! I was sweating my butt off taking care of the last stuff I needed to hide, or put away. Today will be play day. We have a couple of different kites we're going to attempt to fly. My barometer has dropped 7 millibars since yesterday morning. I do hear birds chirping this morning.
First off say a prayer for those in the Bahamas as they are getting flattened, there won't be anything left standing. It's not the Cat 3-4-5 and wind speed that's the issue as much as how low the millibars go. Dorian's 910 millibars puts well into the top ten storms of all times. Yes obviously the higher the wind speed the more destruction initially at landfall but the lower the millibars the less land effects breaking the storm up and slowing down that wind speed as it proceeds across land so it continues to cause far more destruction farther inland than a storm in the 950-960 millibar range. I live outside Gainesville, Florida and am afraid if it turns left it will cut the state in half like Donna did in 1969 and Andrew did in 1992. I've been through seven hurricanes in Florida including Andrew since 1978, none of them have even come close to Andrews destructive power and Dorian is stronger. Pray that thing cools and the millibars rise. Mikey
