I'm going to attempt to get the bellhousing clutch linkage boot for the 65-66 4 speed cars reproduced. I have been in contact with Metro about making it, and I plan to bring them my boot in the next several weeks to use as a sample and for working up cost. The gentleman in new products who I spoke with told me this is a good time to be sending him a project of this nature. They are finishing several larger projects, and he will have an engineer available, and this could help with pricing. That means the quicker this gets going, the potential is there for less cost. Please post here if you are in need of this part, and how many. Also, PLEASE put the word out to those who may not frequent this forum and let them know (like the yahoo groups forum). I'll post back when the pricing discussion is made, and hopefully it will be positive. Mark
Mark, I'm in for two..... You might want to give Carmen Faso a call, too....I bet he'll take a dozen or two.....
Thanks George! Hey Walt, A call to Carmen is on the list - I haven't talked to him in a while anyway. Mark
George, Not yet. I didn't have time to get up there this week. I do plan to be up there either this coming Monday or Tuesday. As soon as I have info, I'll post back. I've been working on some long overdue improvements to my Impala. I'm bad. Later.......... Mark
I had a good meeting this afternoon with Metro. They will be working up pricing in the next few days and will have it for me early next week. This won't be outrageously expensive, but it won't be what I would call cheap either. The more quantity I have, the better the pricing, just like anything. Does anyone know if this part fits anything other than 65-66 4-speed GS? Does the three speed GS use the same part? Also, if anyone has a decent boot in good condition, I may need one, so they can see it in one piece. Mine was less than perfect to use for a prototype, and there was some rubber chunks missing. This would be on loan, and you would get it back, with a free new boot, depending on if this project is a go. Any help is much appreciated, and thanks to all for the responses so far. Another question, is there any other rubber parts we need for the 65-66 GS? I was thinking front parking light gaskets for the 65s for starters. Mark
Mark- Front turn signal gaskets sound like a good idea... What about the reverse lens as well? I know that the tail light "housing" gasket is already reproduced, but what about the gaskets for the individual lenses? I can't think of any other '65-'66 rubber parts. besides the gas tank water shield...
Does the clutch linkage through the firewall have a boot? I had a hard time finding one for my Wildcat. (ex SpecialWagon65)
The clutch linkage boot is the same for the 3-speed Skylark GS. It also fits any of the '60s nailhead cars with a 3 or 4 speed manual transmission (like the Lesabre/Wildcat). As for the boot through the firewall, it is reproduced for the Skylarks (same as the one on the GTO/Chevelle/Cutlass)--readily available from Year One. The one for the Wildcat/Lesabre is completely different. A rubber part you might want to check into is the rubber boot that goes around the shifter linkage on the floor shift automatic setup for '65. There is a big round rubber boot that fits around the shifter plate that bolts to the floor under the console. I have never seen any of those reproduced.
Dan, Ted and Brian, thanks for the feedback. Dan, I don't know about the reverse lenses, I'll find out. I believe the tailight gasket set, which is made by Metro, comes with all the individual lense gaskets. $40 for the whole set. What the heck is that thing in the bottom of your pic? Brian, thanks for the info on the boot, that will help that it fits multiple applications. I'll let them know that. I'll also let them know about the auto boot, there's a lot more automatic cars out than sticks. The thing is, is it a part that is needed by those with those cars? Hows the weather out there? Mark
I'm definitely interested in the '65 auto floor shifter boot. I've got a complete, stiff, torn, worn out, example if it would help.
