Just woundering if anyone runs a ati damper i was thinking of buying there alumium 3 ring damper any feed back would great on other dampers you guys use. Thanks ,Mike
I've run an ATI since I built my car in '92. I did break down and buy a new one for my new motor last year, because my old one was over 10 years old. My engine builder (PeeGee Scotty) warned me off of the aluminum one though. I don't remember why he doesn't like the aluminum one, but he knows a heck of a lot more than I do, so I listened to him.
ati told me that it will be 3/4" out toward the front of the car what would i have to do change the pulley on my atl. to make the belt line up? and which should i get the external balance or internal balance what is the diffence i'm not to sure of that ?
I couldn't tell you anything about the pulleys, because my stuff is all aftermarket. As far as internal or external balance...which way is your engine balanced? internal or external? The balancer for an internally balanced motor will be "neutral" . The flywheel also would be neutral balance. That's what I've got.
Well as of right now the engine as not been balanced so it is the same as stock and the flywheel i bought last year to replace the stock one is a sfi flywheel
Yea it will be balanced and I talked to ati and i call TA and i ended up order a BHJ balancer from ta because it was a direct fit .What do you guys think is a safe rpm for a stock crank and rods?
When I was running stock rods and pistons I kept it to around 6000 rpm. John Massoud will tell you that he went MUCH higher, but he's not quite right! (if you know what I mean) :3gears:
Don't ask GBUICK!!!! He's going 7000 in the eyes with his!:eek2: I had a 464 that made hundreds of 10 sec passes....It was kept below 6400.That was also w/o a girdle. Just a side note.....My ATI balancers were a direct fit as wello No:
Well the reason i ask is that I put over 100 passes on the motor last year and it ran great .But when i took it apart the main bearing were beat up and also the cam bearings and the stock balancer so ready to come apart on its own.Now i shift the car at 6000 and in high gear about 50' from the 1/8mile mark shift light back after the the 1/4 pass the recall on the tach shows 6700.The car pulls hard still but do you think that would cause all the problems i had? or the balancer was just bad?
