I bought an ATI super damper a few years ago. It had dyno time only as the guy didn’t want to mess with finding a pulley that would work and he swapped it out for a stock style damper. I’ve read that they are drilled for a big block Chevy crank pulley. The question I have is has anyone found a pulley that will work with the ATI damper and the other stock 70 455 accessories? I searched the board and didn’t have any luck finding any info.

Im using the ATI damper. Im using the long water pump, 1972 a/c water pump pulley. I ordered the triple pulley for big block chev with a short water pump from SVF performance. The total width of the SVF pulley was less than a March pulley. I had to space the alternator bracket forward by making a 0.100 spacer out of aluminum, same for water pump pulley. The power steering pump lined up perfectly without shims. IMG_0577.jpeg IMG_0064.jpeg IMG_0066.jpeg IMG_0577.jpeg IMG_0064.jpeg IMG_0066.jpeg

ATI does the same thing for Oldsmobile balancers. The two options are to take a Chevy pulley and enlarge the center hole,or take a Buick pulley and drill the Chevy pattern.

Good point Brian, had to machine the register on the pulley to fit the damper.

There are a variety of aftermarket aluminum Chevy pulleys with different offsets as well.

I used a 350 buick crank pulley before. 3 of the 6 bolt holes line up. Not sure about accessories though,it was awhile ago

Thanks for the reply’s and suggestions everyone. I think I’ll stick the damper on a complete engine I have in the shop floor and start trying things out. Probably start with the Buick 350 pulley as I have a couple of those. Hoping to get this sorted out before I take the rotating assembly to be ballanced. I was thinking of selling the damper and buying one from TA but it sounds like I should be able to make something work.

I run the ATI damper and I used the short ‘70 water pump and a single pump pulley from a 1967 430, if I remember correctly. My crank pulley is a 5” for a Chevy that I order from Summit Racing. I made an aluminum spacer, about 3/4” thick or less. I had to relocate my alternator to the lower position due to my fuel regulator and fuel lines to my two four set up.

One advantage of the aftermarket pulley is slowing down water pump and alternator speeds. My Buick pulley was 7.25 inches in diameter, the big block chev pulley is 5.4 inches. Using the 1972 a/c water pump pulley at 4.25 inches has slowed things down considerably. Im using the TA water pump, factoring in a higher idle speed due to the cam, not anticipating cooling issues.

Smaller crank pulley, but leave everything else alone.
