All the parts are in and machine work is complete. I am putting together my 455 in the morning. I am looking for any tips or tricks while doing the assembly that will avoid heartache uzzled: later down the line. Some specifics I am looking for are: o No: 1. Compression Ring and oil ring gap 2. Main cap bolt torqueing sequence 3. Direction of cup for rear main seal (out or in) 4. Any special main or rod bearing install tips. 5. Heads to block 6. Camshaft and Timing Gear Set 7. Timing cover, oil pump distributor, fuel pump 8. Lifters and Pushrods 9. Rocker Arm Assembly bolt down sequence and tolerances 10. Most important....... degreeing the cam to correct specs. First Engine Build for me, I appreciate any pitfall advice, thank you.
Make sure the cam plugs at the front of the block are flush. If they are put in to far they will cut off/Restrict oil to the Number 1 cam Bearing.
Don't forget the oil slinger!!! (That piece that goes between the timing gear and the balancer.) I have had to remove the front-cover a time or two because of this. ou: Good luck. :TU:
Oil Slinger Which way does the outer cupped edge of the oil slinger face towards or away from the timing cover o No:
It will only work the correct way. :TU: Put the oil slinger on the crankshaft so the "cup" is away from the gear. The snout of the balancer (once its installed) fits inside the "cup" of the slinger. This allows all three pieces to be "flush" with one another. :TU:
Cam Wheel I have access to one...by the way my stock gasket kit came with rope seals...are these going to work and what up with the rear ones. (several little pieces)
