Odd one, 72 GS 455, fremont plant, the armrest bases had no chrome trim in them. No holes, nothing. I have never seen that before, was it a common thing or ?????

    Just curious

Do you mean the thin stainless piece thats inlaid? Mine has them and they're original as far as I can tell, Fremont car too. My 70 skylark, on the other hand, didn't have them but I guess that might be expected on a base Skylark.

my 72 gs out of fremont, have the inserts . realize, that anything is possible at build time. if a strike was looming, who knows what the assembly workers did. maybe the armrests u talk about were replacement pieces that were not drilled for the inserts . or maybe they appeared on the assembly line unfinished & some guy just up and installed them instead of tossing them .

    Tim,
The stainless pieces in the armrests and along the sides of front bench seats were only used for deluxe interiors. If the interior was a standard front bench, then the seat came with small plastic covers at the hinge area and NO stainless strips in the armrests.
