Here's another armoured Buick, this RHD car was built for "top brass" of the US Navy in Australia. Imported from Australia into the UK in 2007, not sold at the auction where I found it. 1948 4063cc Buick Special ex military armour plated saloon Reg. No. 216 YUB Chassis No. XGB4A15117 Engine No. 51020084 Definitely the biggest car on the sale ground! This mighty right hand drive straight eight powered 'Hump Back' Buick is said to have been commissioned by the US Navy as a 'top brass' staff car for Australian use. The vendor states that the bodywork and interior are virtually untouched with just the odd old repair noted, the dry Australian climate has prevented any undue rot. Imported in 2007 with much work by a previous owner stated to include an engine rebuild, 12V conversion, new radiator and water pump, serviced brakes, new carb', plugs, points etc, new battery, new tyres, new fuel tank, new s/steel exhaust including manifold. With armoured glass and plating to the rear half this is an imposing vehicle, the vendor states there are a few jobs to do such as the speedo cable, fuel gauge, radio etc but it hasn't prevented him from enjoying the car and showing it at various rallies. There's all sorts of bigger Oldsmobile V8s that would bolt in - unless of course, you wanted to keep it factory (although being an armored custom, it already isn't factory).
