MyDadsBuick 1970 Skylark 455 GS Clone

    Hi All,

I have considered a project for the class next year, rebuild a skylark frame to put under my 70 convertible. But, what should I look for? Are convertibles different from hardtops? Is the 70 different from other years?

    Thanks,

    Paul,

68-72 GM A-body convertible frames are different then the ones used for 2-door coupes/hardtops. The convertible frames are boxed.

The frames also change between years. 68 frames have an extra tongue under the engine cradle, while the 69-72 frames are basically the same with only slight differences.

You can also "create" a convertible frame from a coupe/hardtop frame by welding in the convertible boxed sections.

    I hope this info helps.
