From recollection 64-67 A body windshields have interchange from two door to four door and wagon, but in the second generation 68-72 that interchange ended.
Four doors have a chassis about 6 inches longer between the front and rear frame members. The frame SEEMS to be the same from the middle of the door forward. The platten dimensions are the same on all the measurements. (68-72 Chassis) Just engaged the brain. You probably meant the WINDSHIELD frame... That is different on the angle the A pillar meets.
No, you got it right, I was asking about the actual frame with the suspension. I wondered if I could chop the six inches out of the middle of the two side rails. My 70 coupe is crunched in the front pretty good. frame bent and cowl is bent a little too. just trying to figure out some repair options.
68-72 coupe and convertible wheel bases were 112" Four door, wagon, and believe El Camino wheel bases were 116". So four inches would have to be sectioned out of the perimeter side rails. Remember discarding super clean four door frames for scrap, until about twelve years ago. I do have some front horns, and other 68 - 72 Frame Sections. G body (not the metric car) cars such as the Monte Carlo and Grand Prix lengthened the front frame sections, as well.
In the parts for sale there is/was a cowl assembly for sale. Also the different style cowl assemblies are available aftermarket, with different degrees of completion. (Same parts for ALL GM A-bodies for respective years...) Also, you could section the frame of a 4 door car where the side channel meets the rear main section of the frame, clean out the remaining metal from the rear segment, slide the side channels in the appropriate length, re-weld at the assembly (I'd add a support gusset.)
I agree with the above post, but to get it absolutely right you would likely have to fabricate a fixture to hold everything in proper alignment. It would be easier just to find a decent 2-dr frame.
