    So did mine if I recall, might have been a few years newer, he bought it used I’m sure.
    I was maybe 5 or 6 y/0
    It’s weird, I remember how that car smelled inside, and it broke down on the road, I cried, I thought we were going to die:p:p:p

    Dad bought his Renault new, just before or after I was born. So, it was a '61 or '62.
    It had this crazy electric clutch. The clutch released every time the driver gripped the shift knob .
    The clutch was powdered iron. An electromagnet solidified the iron powder , connecting the engine to transmission .
    Grabbing the shift knob de-energized the magnet, releasing transmission.
    Dad also had a 1962 Rambler station wagon for Mom to drive.
    Neither had air-conditioning.
    In 1963 Dad traded the Renault for a new Oldsmobile (full size) Custom Cruiser wagon (with skylights like a Buick sport wagon). {edit; dad's wagon was a Vista Cruiser, not a Custom Cruiser, the first year was 1964. [thanks K for the correction]}
    It had A/C , the first car Mom and Dad had that had A/C,

    Oldsmobile used the Custom Cruiser name from 1941 to 1947 and again in 1971, all the way up to 1992.
    Your dad's wagon was a Vista Cruiser, not a Custom Cruiser, the first year was 1964.

    It wasn't a full-size wagon, the Vista Crusier was a mid-size model, based on the Cutlass/F85 [IMG]

    My only problem with Renault, and every other French car, is that none of the French car manufacturers have ever been able to put together a decent parts network in the United States.
    I have long said that if you live anywhere but in France, never buy a French car. If you live in France, never buy anything but a French car.

    Thanks for correcting me. That's me in rear looking through the roof glass. And, I've been on a several trains (Birmingham - Chattanooga round trip) that had observation cars.
