    Ok...

This $26 deal on ebay.. anybody see a pic of it?

I got plenty of rusty, dented pieces of crap I would be glad to sell for $26..

The last truely mint rear sump oil pan I sold, not a pit on it, bead blasted inside and out, went for $75.00.

Prolly too cheap, since I had some time into it, and it was very, very nice..

For a C note, I would expect to be buying just that, and would want pictures.

Not out of the question, if it is a premo piece.

I quit selling oil pans, I only have a couple good ones left, and they have to go on customer's motors.

I do believe we will see a repop of this pan eventually, but don't expect it to be less than $100..

Yes, they did make thousands of these, but they also made 20 thousand 70 GS grills.. in cars.. and who knows how many more for the parts departments.

As always, supply and demand for a particular item, depending on it's condition, dictates the price.

And oil pans are subject to rust, and once the motor comes out of the car, the first thing the yard typically did was drop in on the oil pan.. I prolly have 5 or 6 with smashed bottoms.

So if you find someone with a load of good pans, on the cheap.. I suggest you buy them all.

The center sump Riv pan in nowhere near as desireable, since that only fits a limited application.

Man.. 15 years ago the yards were full of these around here, many of them in perfect shape.. but they are all gone now..

So is a c-note too much for a rear sump 455 pan?.. nope, not for a really nice one, that has been cleaned and blasted.

I am building a couple of my stock appearing deep pans right now, and one of them is a core from a customer.. it's was rusty, and is giving me fits with the welding.

I wish I had that perfect pan back that I sold...

Fair Market Value for a GOOD pan is in the neighborhood of $80. give or take $40 depending on how good good is. I've yet to see a $10 oil pan worth buying, maybe I'm just not looking hard enough? I't been my experience that you typically get what you pay for.

What I understand to be the biggest problem is not WHAT was said, but HOW it was said.
You (meaning everybody) can tailor any response to elicit a desired reaction. QB, what sort of response were you trying to get?
QB had something to say, and regardless of what the conversation was about it could have been reworded to get the same point across without being insulting. :blast:
Its just a matter of respect and we all deserve that from one another even if we don't always agree. :beer

    Just me two cents worth...

I sold two 455 oil pans (with baffles) a few months ago for either $10 or $20 each (I forget exactly) to a member of this board..... as a matter of fact, to a member of this board who is in this thread. :pp
They were your typical greaseball pans that needed tons of cleaning.... but I think they should have cleaned up to be pretty nice.
    :Do No:

They sold within 30 minutes of posting the ad too. Musta been a good deal. :Dou: :pp

ok....im feeling pretty crappy right now cause im the one who really looks like an idiot. i dont have any idea what a stock oil pan should cost cause they dont offer them. i looked at ebay motors and they didnt have one(plus i dont like ebay), and since i need it soon/now i didnt have time to wait and reasearch. normally i would. i just thought the same way mike did when i looked in year one and i saw a 4 hundred and somthing pricetag on the deep sump, i figured that 100 for a good quality pan was ok. i appreciate the fact that 66sportwagon was trying to prevent me from getting hosed, but i really dont think that was mike's intention. so i dont hold anything against anyone:beer
so now that everyone is friends again, lets get back to beating them in stages. :TU:

P.S. mike-if you want to negotiate on that pan a little (and i dont mean too much cause i still think the price seems pretty right for the quality you say it is) im still very interested. drop me an email. Thanks
