Wondering what everyone is using for FM radio anntennas ? I only get a few stations in without one . Thanx p :TU:
Bruce, You'll probably need an outdoor antenna...pretty tough to get RF (radio signals) into a metal box. Just about anything should work, but an magnetic mount FM antenna would be the cat's meow. Just thunk it to the outside of the building and run your coax inside. Sticking it sideways would be best as FM broadcast is horizonally polarized whereas AM broadcast is vertically polarized. Just stick it up high where no one can poke their eye with the end of the whip.
I have one of these on a small tower next to my building. It works very well with any radio that is actually designed to be connected to an outdoor antenna. Listening range is now an easy 100 miles in whatever direction I have it aimed. http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog_name=CTLG&product_id=15-2163
No Wonder I get almost nothing! Crikey, I never thought it was the building! Its in a valley, thought that was it. I hooked the ant. wire to the steel building frame thinking it would act like a big antenna, that does not work. I should put a WILDCAT antenna mounted on the roof.
I have an old Sherwood reciever (circa 1990?) I use for my stereo in the steel shop. It came with one of those little wire antennas that you nail up to the wall in a "T" shape. Maybe 4' long? I just plug it into the stereo and let it lay behind it. I don't even need to hang it up. I get all the same stations that I can get in my truck. It works fine for me. o No: However.... whenever I plug in my cordless drill battery charger, I can't get one single stinkin' station to come in. Some kind of noise interference with the charger. It was the same in my old shop too. ou:
Metal building How did your (morton) garage turn out? I certainly love mine since 1989.Only regret I didn't do it sooner :TU:
