Has anyone tried GM Canada for paper trail and was successful? It's like $14.00 if they run the vin and find nothing. Cost like $75.00 if car was sold in Canada and they send a package with facts about that vehicle.
Well today I recieved a package on my 71 GSX and my knees started to get weak. Only to find no Canada sale here. Disappointed and still searching.

I was looking at a local '71 Stage 1 convertible a few years ago.
Once I saw the car this was my next step. It was the real deal.
    Money well spent IMHO.

I used it for my '60 Impala and got good info including the first dealer it was delivered to in Killarney, Manitoba. I contacted the dealer, spoke with owner who was the orig owner's son. Unfortunately they had disposed of all their old records the year before. I sent him some pics which he was going to put up in the showroom, and I got some hats and dealer stuff.

I used it for my 69 GS and got all the info. Are you sure you provided the exact VIN? Some people think the "I" for Oshawa is a "1" because it looks identical in the vin plate. Or it could have been any other character transposed or written incorrectly. :Do No:

If the car was made in Canada, or was sold new in Canada, there will be a record at GM for it. Canadian law says that must be. I know a fellow with a GSX that was made in the states, and sold in Quebec. He got all the paper work from GM in Canada.

Hello Harold , I think you're speaking of Claude's GSX , he's a member here as well :TU: His GSX was made in Flint and sold new at the same place mine was sold 2 years earlier

I order docs from GM Canada as well and I'll recommand to anyone . That cost me about 40$ at that time (2003)

That's really cool! I am familiar with that town as my best buddy had relatives living there. Too bad they disposed of those records though.:ball:

This thread brings back a lot of memories. I bought my 69 at a police auction at Diamond Towing in Toronto, back in 1990. The doors were open, but no keys. Martin Hutchings a friend of mine and I went to pick it up the next day, with every GM key we could find. A brand new key for Martin's 84 chev pick up worked in the ignition and it sure helped us load it on the trailer. (being able to steer) At that time info could be gotten from GM for free, and done from the building infront of the one I worked in. I made a phone call, the took the VIN with me to where the work was done. I met the 2 guys who done this, and had a chat.
A couple of day later I got a letter in the mail with the keys codes in it. I then walked over to reject, and they cut me two keys for the trunk, and ignition. Both worked A1, and were with the car until 2006, when I sold it.

I then made another phone call and requested all the info available on that car. A few days later I got another envelope My car was built on janurary 7th 1969. I do not know what shift, but I may have worked on it as it came down the line, as I was at work that day.

Oh! At that time this was a FREE service. I used it again for a 70 wildcat I bought for the engine. It sure is not free now, but in my opinion it is well worth it. This was at the Oshawa plant here in Canada.

I've used GM Canada in order to get keys done too. Very fast, and it worked. The last car I did this with was built in the US, but sold in Canada new, so there was some paper on it.

Well, I kinda wish mine had been sold in Canada. Sure would make things alot more simple for me.
