Digging thru a bin of parts, mostly A\C parts, that came with the '72 Skylark I just bought. Trying to take stock of what I have and what I need to get the A\C working. I know I'm missing at least the condenser up front. The pressure line seals will have to be replaced. That one pic shows the 3 lines and compressor I have. I'll have to get a seriously overpriced Service Manual to figure out how to hook it all up and get power to it. Can anyone help me identify these other random pieces? Not sure what that threaded stud is. The black bracket looks like an A\C piece? Maybe? I don't think the orange painted bracket goes under the hood, and that anodized bracket with the rubber bumpers looks sort of familiar...maybe an interior piece. Thanks all! Trying to get the A\C working before Power Tour.
I think that stud and the orange bracket to to a stock valve cover (probably passenger side). The orange bracket looks a wire guard. Other than the photo of the AC compressor and lines, I'm not sure what the rest go to. Those look similar to what is on my 400. I would think that the power wire to the compressor is somewhere in the engine wiring harness, near the alternator. Should be a 2-prong plug with a green and black wire.
Thanks Rich. I think the original wiring has been untouched except for the HEI upgrade, and I think I've seen the compressor wiring in that area.
You should be able to download the manual for free. Maybe @ TeamBuick.com. The orange pieces are as Rich said. Lots of different stuff on '72s but I don't think the long brackets belongs. There's a sheetmetal bracket on the back of the compressor. That one doesn't look like what's on my '72 parts car but post a couple angles of it.
It goes in the engine bay, it's a wire loom protector/ heat shield, mounted between the intake manifold and the passenger's side valve cover. Here's one for sale on eBay
That's OK... if it doesn't plug in or hold something important, it's just another piece for the parts bin.
By the way, that loom protector should be red (engine coloured), not orange. For 1975/1976 they were painted blue, also engine coloured:
