Anybody know what this situation calls for?: I live in Illinois, but want to go pick up a car in Ohio on a Sunday. I could get some kind of temporary registration from Ohio, except it's Sunday. Or, could I do this kind of thing over the phone? The guy I'm buying from has the title, so that should be kool. Can he get it for me? The registration on the car isn't current, he hasn't been driving the car on the road. I really can only drive the car back, I have no way to trailer it. Anyone from Ohio and can tell me what I need to do? Thanks!!
GS I would suggest you post this request in the "Bench" forum. You will get more coverage there. Good luck. Patrick
When I bought my 50 buick I bought it locally here in Ohio but i remeber reading that if you take a car out of state your state just has to inspect it and you can have the title notorized in OH when you buy it and have him give you a bill of sale. Your state should be fine with that. My suggestion would be to call the Ohio DMV and your DMV if you need a # for OH PM I will get it for you. Hope that helps.
you are right At least my buddy who knows way too much about cars and dealing with the athoriti about them and other legalities said the same. Just have the proper title, and a bill of sale, and you have 7 days. At least that may be the particulars about Illinois-the 7 days part. My insurance agent told me that I have 30 days or 60 days or something covered, with this car on my policy that I have on my current car. Without doin nothin! That's pretty boss. And I don't have any fancy insurance-just what I thought was appropriate in terms of protecting me and potential harm to others. I have Farmer's Insurance. (That's the company) Please check with your agent before you try this at home! I didn't think this was appropriate in this forum, after I posted. Before I posted, I honestly thought the "help from above" was just for people to post about their cars that were giving them fits! Then I realised...uzzled: Thanks for your input guys!
