Does anyone know the ram-air foam dimensions? Mainly the hight of them, but any other know dimensions would be helpfull. Also, is their a certain type of foam that must be used to hold up to the heat?:Do No:
I have a relative that works at a foam factory that says he can make me foams dirt cheap with his discount. I'm not an original freak, so if he could make me descent ones I'd rather go that route than pay $21 US each for the "correct" foams. I don't have that much money to burn...and I'm only looking to please myself so I'd be happy if he could make me some:cool:

Also, the "support bracket" in the year one catalogue, is that the same support bracket I'm thinking of that holds up the front part of the ram air breather?:Do No:

    Thanks
    :3gears:

If you are not into original parts, here is what I do. Keep your ram air cleaner in the trunk and save it for shows. Use an open element for street driving. The foam parts are special with an external coating to prevent sucking air from the engine compartment.

Thanks for the tip, but I don't think I'll be doing that. I just bought my ram-air cleaner last weekend and am excited about getting it on the car. I still might go with the proper foams...I was just thinking I could spend that extra $60+ (Canadian) on something else for the car. The reasons I'm not overly into original parts is because my car is only a Custom. Also, the hose that comes out of the valve covers is on the drivers side (I am told this is incorrect for 69) So my ram-air cleaner is off a 71.(I'm told) So if a Buick guy was looking at my car, he could pick these(and other imperfections) things out. I love my car and I enjoy it. It's not a daily driver, but its no show queen either. I guess I'm just kind of wondering if I should use "correct" parts if my car will never be correct or free of imperfections:Do No:
I guess I have some time to think about it before the air cleaner is fully restored...some unintelligent person cut the middle out of my air cleaner and pop-rivetted in the centre for a 2 barrelle! :spank: I got the original 4 barrelle centre with it, but the air cleaner was grinded and now the centre is about a few millimeters short all the way around:ball:

I'm interested in some suggestions on how you would fix this. Should I take my time and weld the old peice back in, find another peice from another breather?:Do No: I guess I could cut the centre out of my normal air cleaner, but the thought of that doesn't sit quite right with me.
    Suggestions?

69 has the tube to air cleaner on the pass side.
70-2 has the tube on the driver's side.

As for the center opening, get a center section from a
4 bbl air cleaner and weld it in place.

Also, I hope you know the GS ram-air set-up was more
for looks than function. In order to be a true ram air set-up,
Buick should have copied 70-2 442 with large openings and the openings at the leading edge of the hood.

You will get better performance from an open element filter so I would use that and keep your ram air in the trunk.

I do what George does. My NOS foam seals were too dang 'spensive to crunch under the hood. And there is a solid seat of the pants performance increase.

leave the ram breather in place & install a smaller chrome lid in place of the regular breather lid . that is what i do when on the road .
