Has anyone here seen promotional movies on the '70 Buicks? I would believe that they do exist, and if they do,would anyone be willing to copy it for me for my archives? Any info would be appreciated.
Carl - I have BOX FULL of them here under my desk. You cant watch them there uzzled: but after the Salem DVD is released I'll be working on getting them transferred. They are "Internal" movies, not TV ads....housed on some whacky HUGE cassette that was for a special player that no longer exists. I'll be splicing them together and having them transferred to DVD. I have No Idea how long (Timewise) they are.....Here are the titles I have. 1972 ------- Skylark Features Full Size Buick Features 1973 ----- Regal Riviera Electra 225 Apollo Centry Luxus Centurion Station Wagons Opels Quality Assurance 1974 ------ Performance Features Apollo Wagons Opel LeSabre Century 350 / Luxus/ GranSport Riviera Electra 225/Custom/Limited Air Cushion restrain system ( ???? 1974 Air bags ????) Safety Belt System 1975 ------- Maximum Mileage System (No Year) ------------ New Car Warantee Guide Polite Lights Trailer Towing
That's cool,Alan! I'd be interested in getting a copy from you,and it's certainly a start. Thanks! Rob,if you have those commercials,I'd also be interested in obtaining them from you. Please PM me. P.S. I have a promotional box that was used only for advertising too and it was on the '87 Buicks. That too had that weird cassette that would only work at a TV station. I forget what format it's called, but the tape is real wide.
:TU: I'll make them available to everyone and have a post here (and on the BPG Site) detailing it when its ready. Carl - what I have looks more like super-8 FILM (farely thin) but its in a casette that was top-loaded into the "player". I did actually find the info on this format and even looked to purchase a player but I haven't seen nore heard of any available.
Cool, I have the dealer filmstrips, but have never even heard of these cassette things!! Keep us posted....
That is interesting,Alan. I've never seen that type of format. I have a promotional film having to do with the 1987 Buicks and the film is unique-only TV companies have this type of format. Alan, that would be great if you can make these films-thank you. :TU:
Carl, When I joined the BCA I got a flyer promoting these videos for sale from a company. I can see if I still have the flyers and give you the info. I'm pretty sure I still have it somewhere. Let me know
Man this is crazy! All these cool tapes out there and no way to play them!!! There has to be a machine or two left around somewhere???? I'm not a collector of old material but would love to watch those. I do have a box of late 60s and early70s Hot Rod mags I leaf through every couple of years just for fun! The musty smell drives my wife crazy!! Ken
I haven't been there in a while, but you could try the Internet Moving Image Archive . Last I checked they had a lot of old "educational" footage, propaganda reels, very old commercials, etc. Found one of Desi and Lucy selling a hardtop convertible.
The promomovie of the 73 Riviera: http://home.planet.nl/~houte302/video/73riv.wmv Some more on this subject I had posted in: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=58230
nice, see that jerk in the 72 skylark cut off the riv. reminds me of me. i,d love to see one on a the 70-72 a bodys
That's for the Riviera. This one is for a 73 Electra: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=418&item=2289579418&rd=1
Thats exactly the same type/style of the cassettes I posted above I WILL be transferring all of the above early next year
That is a neat film clip of the Riviera-makes me want to go out and buy one!!!!! The one interesting thing is that they feature a Riviera GS complete with the Stage 1 engine!!! That is so cool! Ahh,those were the days!!! A pure luxury musclecar. Times definately have changed, and we'll never see this kind of advertising the way the car manufacturers promoted their products.
That "film cassett" most likely has a standard film size (8MM,Super 8, etc) inside. GM probably put them in that holder so that even the Chevy dealers could figure out how to use them  I bought a VHS tape of '68 promo film from a guy named Charles Dart. I guess he has quite a bit of Buick promo film converted to VHS. I do not have his address but I am sure someone on this site or the BCA site would have contact info for him.
