Has anyone here ever installed remote car starters? If you have, you quickly find out they are not as easy to install as the manufacturer claims.Personally,I think they are a pain in the neck to install;with all the onboard security features that today's new cars have in them, makes it more of a problem to interface these remote systems with the electronics that cars have nowadays. I'm sure all of you have seen electronic stores advertising specials for these remote systems-149.95 installed. Well, the price of the unit alone will easily cost 100.00,so how much are these people charging for labor? 50.00? Does anyone know how much time it takes to install one of these systems? On average,it takes about 6 hours for a typical install. That means the store charged 8 dollars an hour! That's insane for electrical work. Right now,I'm in the process of installing one of these systems in a friend's 2000 Chrysler 300M. So far,it's a pain in the neck.I will be very happy to get the car done, once it's done.Anyone here going through the same thing I am?

Just went through this a few weeks ago with my 4X4.
It had a basic older model system, remote start/keyless entry, no security system which succumbed a slow death.
Removal and bench test old system - about 45 minutes, it was DOA. Cost $40.00.
Agree on new system installation - about 30 seconds.
Installation of new start/entry system, with no security - about 2.5 hours. Cost $249.90, with 3 year warranty.
Taxes $40.58, for a total cost of $330.48.
Aggravation saved - absolutely worth it!!!!!!
All connections were soldered and shrink tube wrapped.
Dropped truck of at 1:00 PM, picked it up at 4:45 PM.
Do I want to try this at home, NO WAY, todays electronics are to sensitive. Some vehicles dash boards will quit working with a simple static electric shock, easy enough to do with cloth seats.
    My $0.02. :TU:

    Hi,

    i didn't install mine.
    had it done,but!

i have a 2003 chevy 3500 series truck, and the guy that installed it is good,so they say!
but,my security light has been coming on since he installed it,he so,he changed the interface, still came on. then he said there's nothing wrong with the interface,so,last week,he worked on it,and i had him disconnect it.
and the security light hasn't come on, and somehow the guy burned my seat! :af:
so,now i will be going there tommorrow! :spank:
    good luck

i removed an alarm/ remote start from a jeep. had about 5 relays. connected to various components. was a pain to remove and that's on a jeep wrangler!! don't have a whole lot for wiring on those. I proceded to add it to an 87 honda accord but only the alarm and power lock portion and not the alarm kit.

my parents 98 riv has nothing added and it has a security warning light on constantly. also.. an intresting trick with the GM kits used on the riv and i'm sure others, is that if you have the trunk open and the doors are locked you can unplug the box in the trunk near the pass side rear speaker and plug it back in and it will unlock the doors. :puzzled:
