I just recently discovered the back half X has a unique and not so common 8 3/4 489 rearend under it. Been doing research and it appears to be a stout rear for racing.Just wondered if anyone else uses one and how they hold up??

I had one in a street/strip car for over 20 years. I believe the 742 is slightly more desirable but 489 is also a good choice.

    BigNasty -
489's are great rear-ends. There is always the debate between the 742/489's and really about the same. I have had a few of both behind some 400-600 power Mopar's without any issues. What I like is you can change gears without lots of hassles. Sure-Grips are sure expensive, but if your going to use spool, pretty much bullet proof for the budget. Dr. Diff is a great supplier of parts if needed.

I was walking through Summit's sale rack the other day found a set of 4:10's I believe for $100. If you are interested in them, PM me and we can work a purchase plan if they are still there (Highly Likely).
