Anyone has a 9 3/8 in their garage?

I just recieved the posi from Florida, it's in good condition. It does look suspiciously small though, so before I start taking anything apart I was wondering if anyone has a 9 3/8 laying around somewhere to do some measurements on? This unit has a width of 7 3/4 end of bearing to end of bearing. The distance between the inner edge of a bolt hole to the inner edge of the bolt hole opposite is 5 7/8. These figures are not exact, but I'd like to know if it is way off, or if it resembles the size of a 9 3/8..

    Many thanks

Would a picture do? My posi is ready to go back in.

I'm just after a rough measurement of it, so I know I got the right one. The posi came out of a 72 Catalina which had had a 455/400 so you'd think it be right. Here are some pics so you can see roughly how big it is. I think the camera angle makes the figures off a bit.

I think thats what they call the 8 7/8's MP series rearend...Still a tough rearend...Thats what i had in my 74 grandville with a 2.93 gearset......

So, we're back to square one I guess, could we have a confirmation on the type from a second source just to be sure..

    Thanks

Actually that may only be a 8.5 I think mine has a s spring in it like the 9 3/8's ..also I am pretty sure no cat in 72 came with a 455 ... only the grandvilles had them and the 70 bonneville...maybe other bonnies too ,but not sure on that ,but i do know the grandvilles all had them......Do you have the case too?

I saw this in another thread, it came in late and it was already picked up. I was kind of expecting it could go in this direction, no one was really sure but I had information indicating it would be a 9 3/8.

"Hi guys-I just saw this thread and will just add that i have a '73 Catalina (the same as the '72 excepting the added, beautiful? safety bumpers. I had a spare rear sway bar for it and tried to use in on my '66 225-no way would it mount up. The control arm width was the same, but the Buick 'punkin' was much larger on the eEectra and no way would the Pontiac bar get around it. The Catalina must have a smaller ring gear-it sure has much smaller brakes/drums in the rear-good luck-"

I guess I'll just have to try an re-sell it on e-bay.
