    Single Stage Stage 1?

Hi, Im looking at a nova here locally. Its a 1972 factory 307 car with th350. It is all original with only 65k miles on it. The car runs and drives just fine and all the body panels are very good. There is little or no rust in the quarters, fenders, doors, rockers, hood, roof.....and so on. The floors on the other hand have a few holes in them. Not big holes and they are patchable without putting in full floors. I would replace them for a perfect look, but they are very patchable. It is green with black interior. The interior has some problems though. The front bench needs to be recovered, the door panels are coming off at the bottom, the rear seat is perfect, the dash has a small crack in it, and the head liner is coming loose in the back. The car doesnt even have door dings. It looks good, but it needs painting, floors, and interior work. Any ideas on what this car is worth? The fellow is asking 5k for it and says hes the second owner. Id really like to have it, but is it worth it? Are these cars worth a lot of money if I ever needed to get out of it? Any help would be great. Thanks

In my opinion that sounds high for a non SS car unless it was very nice. They are a sought after car these days though and I am sure you could resell it fine but at the price I would be wary of it if you think you may have to resell it.I know a guy here locally that has a SS for sale and he has around 11,000.00 in it and you could buy it for that. Its red with perfect black interior and has been repainted and is very fast.Auto on the floor with Bucket seats. That kind of maybe gives you an idea to compare to.....

:Do No: I just checked NADAguide.com and they don't even list the 72 Nova as a collector car. My only other suggestion is to try Old Cars Weekly/Price Guide, just to get a general idea.:Do No: Sorry, can't be of any further help.

  6. 72 is the last year of the good body style and they are getting tough to find. expect to pay dearly for a rust free version

I bought my wife's 68 nova almost completely restored, with the original engine(250 6-cyl), custom paint, and completely finished interior for 6,000. It's a fantastic little car. And the best part is that you can get all the parts for your Nova brand new. A company called Classic Industries has a great catalogue that you can practically build the entire car(minus the frame) with.

That is the understatement of the century, and I am totally jealous. Any chance your wife wants to move on and sell me her '68? :)

Way back I had a `72 Nova with a 307/TH350. I bought it from an old couple and it only had 32,000 miles on it. I started to play with it a little and threw some parts on it that I had in the back room. I put headers and stock duals with the single rear muffler, Edelbrock Performer cam and intake and a 600cfm Holley, 3,000 stall converter, shift kit and a 3.73 posi and the car ran a 14.30 in the 1/4. Not bad for a 307 that never even had the heads off.

Yep, that's why I thought dude's wife might be ready for a different car!

But, seriously, I found my way here because I got t-boned in my '72 Nova and I'm wondering if the insurance company is going to "total" the car. If they do, I want to make sure they offer me a decent price. (We'll buy it back, of course.)

The '72 is my first car so it'll always have a special place in my heart but a '68 has been a desire for a while now...

The September issue of Collectible Automobile has a feature article on '68-'72 Novas. They also list current prices for cars they feature. The '71-'72 Nova SS is valued as follows: Restorable, 5-8K. Good, 8-15K. Excellent, 15-18K. Ordinary coupes and sedans are 3-5K, 5-8K, 8-12K respectively.
You can add 30% for a 396 cid version, and deduct 10% for a six, or four cylinder model. :TU:
