Anybody hooked an MSD to one of Ignition Man's distributors?

Mine has the module mounted under the case. Small cap.

His instructions posted elsewhere on this site make mention of removing the module and connecting a wire supplied in the kit. But the way he says it makes it sound like my setup already has the ends on it that I need.

My module connects to the magnetic pick-up via a square black 2-prong connector. He makes it sound like there should be spade connectors there instead, and the wire in the kit will convert the spade connectors to this type of plug to accept the MSD connection from the box.

    :Do No:

What gives?? Anyone? I don't want to get my wiring all done and nicely routed and shrink-wrapped and bundled and tied, only to find out it is all wrong.

    Thanks!

    Yardley,

I am not sure about the conversion style dist. but on my HEI I used MSD's module bypass cable (p/n 8861 - 7.99 in Jeg's) to hook up my 6AL box when I removed the module.

    Hope that helps.

Jeff - I'd ask him directly at sparkman451@earthlink.net or at Bill's forum.

Haven't heard of anyone using an MSD box with one of Dave's stand-alone HEI's. Hopefully, you can post some pics once you get it sorted out!!:TU:

    Sure, done plenty of them..

We had one that had a miss on the dyno, so we just unplugged the mag pickup wires from the module, and used them to trigger the MSD. It cured the problem on that particular motor, and I will stop short of saying it was the dist, as it could have easily been the coil or a wiring issue.

I have used his mag trigger only distibutors several times, with very good results.

Email him and get the specifics for wire color polarity, as I don't recall it off the top of my head.

I highly reccomend either his mag conversion, or a Mallory Unilite conversion for a trigger with one of the MSD boxes, for virtually any performance application.

We have 6 cars in the shop, that either will get, or have already recieved this treatment, with both Dave's mag conversion and the unilite coversion, and our "hidden" 6AL box. Best ignition setup for a street/strip car out there, IMHO.

    Jeff,
The magnetic pickup used in Daves HEI is the same one used for his MSD trigger only conversion. There are two wires coming from the pick up. One is black with an Orange stripe, this one is + in polarity. The other is black with a violet stripe, this is - in polarity. The distributor leads to the MSD box are violet(+), and green (-). Sooo, you just have to remember not to connect violet to violet. The black/orange connects to the violet box lead, and the black/violet connects to the green box lead. Hope that helps. I have an MSD Book of wiring diagrams and Tech notes. Very helpful book.
