I'm just preparing myself here. Engine builder is going to walk me through it next week, but it appears the original 430 on my '68 Wildcat is not only tired, it is worn out. He told me by phone yesterday that it already appeared to have been rebuilt twice, with twice-oversize crank. Bottom end bearings shot. It has +.040 pistons already .... I know you can go to +.060 but his fear is that some bottom-end parts needed to bring it back to life are now extremely difficult to locate. (This guy knows Buicks, is a big TA Perf customer, and has several nailheads and 455s in his shop right now, as well as mine.) I didn't have a chance to go into it deeply on the phone, but he is clearly preparing me for a ''you might be better off getting another big block'' scenario. So that I can do the economic math after a chat with the builder next week (i.e. is it worth the time, cost and possible difficulty to fix mine and keep matching numbers on a non-concours car?) ... does anyone have a 430 for sale? Condition? Price? Thanks. (Don't worry about my location, I can be very resourceful and I'm used to similar situations with scarce vintage Harley-Davidson stuff.....)
I have at least three Buick 430 motors. Two of the motors are complete motors pulled from 68 Wildcat and Riviera. Asking $300 each with pickup in Nebraska. I also have one bare block. Asking $100 with pickup in Kansas City. PM me if interested.
.060 is nothing to worry about with a 430. Also finding a crank to go .010 isn't an issue either, I dont a total replacement is worth doing..
I have a new in the crate factory short block. I am about an hour west of Kansas City. This is nos but would still require a thorough cleaning.
I have a 68 or 69 can't remember, was a running motor when taken out many years ago. Intake to oil pan no carb. Asking $400 I'm in FL. If you are in the other side of the world, that might be a problem. Fernando
I got 67 430. ran when pulled from what I understand... intake to pan... Seattle area... free.99 OBO.
Thanks for the recent good offers guys. I appreciate it. Mark aka gsxnut stepped up first and is really coming through for me, and I feel I have a good deal with a helpful forum member. So I’m sorted. Cheers.
